The Sonics - He's Waitin' If you don't know this band, trust me when I say that they can really rock 'n' roll.

"The Kinks - Do You Remember Walter?"
A song about a long lost friend. Side note: The Kinks toured with the Sonics at one point, according to Sonics Sax man Rob Lind.

Have been listening to a lot of Roy Orbison albums, as of lately. I guess he was a "product" of the time when pop and rock stars, still had not begun to fill up an entire album full of good or great songs, instead mostly focus on the main hit single, and the rest were kind of "fillers" of cover songs and b-sides. Not saying his albums were terrible, but I did quite like the 2006 re-master (which came with some great bonus tracks, some should have been included on the orignal album, as they were superior to some of the weaker ones) of In Dreams (1963), where as Songs for the Lonely and Blue (1961), sadly had few which matched the quality of Only the Lonely and Blue Angel.
Anyway, he sure had an impressive display of singles and top hits during the first half of the 60s, some even from later on that decade. Incredible voice, and love how well it goes along with the warm and solid production as well. The climax of Running Scared, that is as powerful as they come. No matter how many times I have heard it, still gives me the chills.
Just saw through a bit of the much later made for television show Black and White Night, and it is quite impressive how he still had such a strong voice, even though his health was declining.
Might have to track down a collection of his best work from the Monument era.
