I'm interested to hear what people have actually gone and watched (talking about the Oscar nominees here). Somehow I doubt many people have seen Lion or Fences, but we'll see. Sadly I've only seen two: La La Land and Hacksaw Ridge. Both of which I loved, although I think Hacksaw was slightly better just because it had a more potent affect on me. I really want to see Hell or High Water, Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea, and would be up for seeing the rest, but not sure I want to spend much of my own money on them. Just to remind you, here are the nominees: - Fences
- Hacksaw Ridge
- Lion
- Hidden Figures
- La La Land
- Arrival
- Manchester by the Sea
- Hell or High Water
- Moonlight

So far I have only seen Arrival but plan to watch Hidden Figures tonight. I still think Nocturnal Animals should have been nominated for best picture. It is the curse of Jake Gyllenhaal again.

I've seen absolutely NONE of them. The only one that would interest me is Manchester by the Sea because I like Casey Affleck. The others? Meh.

- Hacksaw Ridge
- Lion
- Hidden Figures
These 3 are the only ones I haven't seen, and honestly, I don't think I'll bother to watch them at all. There are less than 3 weeks left before the Oscars, and none of those 3 films interest me enough to want to see them in time for the ceremony.

Arrival Hidden Figures La La Land Moonlight
Hidden Figures is my favorite so far.
I want to watch the rest (except for Fences) but I'm too lazy recently.

I've only seen Arrival and La La Land. I'll get to Moonlight for sure… but it's only playing at theaters that require a bit of effort to get to, and mostly only pretty late showings. It seems unlikely I'll get to any of the other ones. Maybe Manchester.

Arrival- A Fences- A- Hacksaw Ridge- A Hell or High Water- A Hidden Figures- A- La La Land- A+ Lion- A- Manchester by the Sea- A Moonlight- A+
My choice is La La Land. I would've taken out Fences, Hidden Figures and Lion. Added Silence, Sing Street and Your Name.

Because of work and personal reasons, I have only seen 4 so far - Hell or High Water, Arrival, La La Land and Hidden Figures. Now that I have more time, Moonlight, Fences, Manchester and Hacksaw are only in select theaters at select times. So, it will be hard. Lion seems to be in wider release, so I am guessing it is next.

Only four so far (all of which are 6/10's(a mild Thumbs Up))...
-Hell or High Water -Arrival -Hacksaw Ridge -Manchester by the Sea
but ill probably see the following eventually...
-La La Land (i am rolling this dice on this one as i usually avoid musicals like the plague simply because singing dialog and the like gets boring very fast.)
-Fences (i figure it will be decent enough for a viewing but i am not expecting it to be a movie with any re-watch appeal which ultimately means i expect to give it a Thumbs Down)
-Hidden Figures (like Fences i figure it will be a decent enough movie to see once but ultimately won't have any re-watch appeal)
so basically... when is all said and done it's possible i could have seen as much as 7 out of the 9 best picture nominee's of 2016.
bottom line... i am confident none of those best picture nominee's will score above a 6/10 for me as 7's and higher are amongst my favorite movies in general of which only 200 movies managed to pull off out of the 2,025+ total movies i have seen. so while it's possible i could be wrong, playing the odds i won't be given movies don't generally score too high for me in general and given what i have seen of best picture nominee's of the past the vast majority are nothing special.

I'm trying to catch up this week, I'll probably end up seeing more then I usually do. I'm only at three so far. Moonlight and Hacksaw Ridge are both a must for me before Sunday, if there's time I'll check out the others but those are at the top of the list right now.
La La Land-7/10 Arrival-9/10 Manchester by the Sea-6/10

All but Fences. I started Fences the other weekend, but honestly, I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes. It seemed like an obnoxious version of the play. Just weird seeing on screen. I mentioned this on another post, but it seems the only reason this movie exists is for the performances. Just too hammy for me.
Hacksaw 9/10 Lion 7/10 (strong first half that fell apart for during the second half) Hidden Figures 8/10 (the lightest film of the nominees) La La Land 8/10 Arrival 9/10 Manchester By the Sea 7/10 Hell or High Water 9/10 Moonlight 7.5/10

Another shitty year in movies. Thank god television is in its golden years.
Fences: No Interest Hacksaw Ridge: Good, not great. Lion: Too depressing. Turned it off. Hidden Figures: No Interest La La Land: No Interest in musicals Arrival: Very good Manchester by the Sea: Decent. Expected much better. Hell or High Water: Decent Moonlight: Not seen
*Best film of the year: Elle
