I'm reading Aubrey Huff's book right now, not a good read, a little interesting in some parts, a little pretentious in some and a lot boring in some.

This - - which, given that his regular cartoons in the Guardian are very hit or miss (tending towards the latter), turned out to be a surprisingly cohesive and very entertaining read. A half to full page text introduction for each strip gave the book a loose narrative structure and a chance to display a rather fine line in sarcasm. I recommend it highly.

I see two words standing out in that post: David Squires. If you want me to give you a two word response let me know.

And believe me, I was sceptical too, as his regular efforts are often on a par with colonic irrigation on the LOL-ometer. But choosing his own material (rather than being told to do something topical on demand), on a more relaxed deadline seems to work for him. Well I thought so, though tbf I am someone who considers The Pure Hell Of St Trinian's to be the pinnacle of western cultural development to date.

A Fair Field and No Favour: The Story of the 2005 Ashes Series by Gideon Haigh.
Looks at all 5 tests and the lead up ODIs and weaves in a narrative about England captain Michael Vaughan's resolve to a) keep his team believing they could win after getting hammered in the first test b) play entertaining cricket and c) have a good relationship with the Australians. C in particular is something both teams have forgotten in more recent series.

Unfortunately it's not real good. I almost stopped at one point, then he back tracked and talked about going to college so it got a little interesting, I'm on the last fifth of the book now. Mostly about him taking adderall while playing because he was bored.

No. It's about him taking adderall while playing - if he hadn't done that, there would literally be no story but we live in the day and age now where pretty much anyone who played in the Majors gets a book now. Yet there still is no biography of Willie McCovey.
