First time I was exposed to "Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen, I thought it was really odd.
This was a few years before it got popular due to it being aired on "Family Guy".
My family (father, mother and I) were moving my brother to the big city. My father and brother were in the U-Haul, while my mother and I had our car - so that father, mother and I could get back home.
My mother had the radio on the oldies station. "Surfin' Bird" played.
About half way thru the song, I say out loud, "What the hell is this?!".
My mother replied, "They don't make 'em like this anymore, do they?"
WITH GOOD REASON!
Needless to say, I LOVED it. A couple of months later, I saw a CD of Silly Songs on sale. "Surfin' Bird" was on it.
SOLD!

I always think of Pee Wee Herman performing "Surfin' Bird" in Back To The Beach whenever It's mentioned.

I wouldn't call this an odd song since it was released eventually, but the copy of it that I prefer can be heard here. The name of it is "Perfect Love" and sadly, this may be the only place now where you can here my newest favorite singer do its leading, I love my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys SO much!!! God bless you and his family always!!! Holly P.S. I do apologize for the hear and there hiccup that goes on during the song's playing. It came from a live TV performance of the song back in 1994 which is the year before Steve left the group.

What's the criteria for "odd?" Songs that are novelty and don't know it. "What were they thinking" songs. Stuff that would never have an audience today. I'm sure there are many that make us go, "really?"
