"In retrospect, it might have been a bad idea to staff our product development department with only one guy, "Stan", whose sole life experience appears to be posting on 4chan."

If Young Pharaoh is right, it should've been a little white boy wearing that hoodie.

"In retrospect, it might have been a bad idea to staff our product development department with only one guy, "Stan", whose sole life experience appears to be posting on 4chan." The parents of that child model must have been very hard up for money.

Monkeys just need to be banned from all marketing.
It can;t help but be a bad idea.
There's a reason Watermelon Farmers of America doesn't do ads.

These types of stories are always a mixed bag of funny and awkwardness. Sure... Somebody should have seen this and been like "Uhhhhhh.... This might not be a good idea, guys." On the other hand: Yes. Some morons associate black people with monkeys... and use the term in a negative way. But.. Outside that dipshit fringe lies reality. Monkeys don't represent black people... and vice versa. Isn't a testament that people have started to move onto a more realistic view of reality and started to forget the bullshit of the past? Would it really have been better if a white kid was wearing this shirt? Are people really offended at this... or are we offended of the notion that humans - as a whole - might no longer be? In the year 2018.. Do we still have to let the racists dictate how we view reality? Is Designer Medina offended because it's an affront to himself... Or is he offended because he thinks that other people might... or, even, should.. be?

It is ridiculous that people were offended by it and think it is racist. People of all races call their kids monkeys and it is not derogatory or insulting. I think the hoodie is fine for kids of any ages and I would have no objection to wearing it myself.

i suppose if you are harboring an agenda of glorified victimology coupled with government hand outs then it could be seen as offensive.

Some connotations you really just don't want in your ad.
I mean, the swastika has a long history as a symbol all over the place. And tall white pointy hats is a christian symbol in some countries.
But you just don't wanna put a guy in a tall white pointy hat with a swastika in your advert. You really just don't want to go there if you're trying to get people to buy your stuff!

I am noticing a trend of European companies doing advertising that Americans get offended over.
Dunno about you Yanks, but "monkey" is a term used all the time over here for kids, hence its inclusion on the top. I wouldn't have thought twice about it if people hadn't started yelling very loudly "Hey racists, look how you can upset us"
The British media hasn't given a shit, The Guardian reprinted a CNN story and the BBC covered the South Africa thing, but all the outrage appears to be coming from North America. The kids mother didn't give a shit either.
