I have a couple of very inexpensive LED, battery operated lights that I keep with candles, matches and lamp oil, for power outages. They have a very harsh white beam, not the soft glow that the photograph shows. I've had them for a long time, so maybe the technology has advanced to make them more inviting for every-day light. There's a Lamps Plus about a mile from here, and I'll check it out.
Another fun light that I have discovered is battery operated candles. They're amazing. They have a "wick" that flutters and turns, to make a genuine appearing "flicker." The batteries - 2 AA - last for many hours. The only ones that I've seen are the pillar type. But, "real" pillars don't last very long. Once they've burned down, in the center, the fill with melted wax and won't allow oxygen for long-term continued burning. That's not a problem with these.

I have some like those, and also a set of 6 small bright ones with a remote (timer, brightness). Use a few just inside dark deep cabinets. The ones in my LP cabinet need batteries. One I have to use in my car (electrical problem burns dome bulbs out in no time). And a couple I use instead of a flashlight.

I just picked up one of those swirly Christmas light projection thingies with blue/purple/green moving colors and set it up inside in the sun room that has a high vaulted ceiling. WOWser ! It is sooooooo coool ! It was on sale 1/2 price and an additional 11% off so only about $6. The store only had the one colored one but they had lots of white ones so may try one of those or look in another branch of the store for more of the b/p/g. Picture this in moving blue/ purple/green !   |
