The push back is something that maybe DC should have done. They tested New Mutants and it sounds like they want to make it scarier.

Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams and Charlie Heaton star in New Mutants, which will now open against the Blake Lively action-thriller The Rhythm Section. Word on the street is that after the film tested well but not great, the studio decided to actually embrace the film’s horror elements and beef up the scares in the wake of the success of It and Get Out last year.
