No Steering Wheels & No Brake Pedals...
So... NO WAY for the driver to take control, when the computer goes rouge...
And how are these cars supposed to.... Park in the correct parking spot in a parking garage or parking lot?... Parallel park on the city street?... Drive on Gravel and Dirt roads, which are not on Google Maps?... Stop when a child is killed in a Hit And Run accident by the Car?... Stop when the Car, sideswipes MY car?... Will the car stop for Active Railroad Crossings?... What happens if police wants to pull you over? If the car doesn't stop, will they charge you with "evading arrest"?... What happens if the "Driver" dies in the car, or jumps out of the window? Does it just keep going?...
And How will Automobile Insurance Companies deal with these kinds of vehicles?
Is it just me, or does this sound like a REALLY Bad idea...

Surely nothing can go wrong. Well, almost nothing. Well, maybe something, but it won't be serious. Well, maybe serious, but no one will be injured. Well, maybe someone will be injured, but no one will be killed. Well, maybe someone will be killed, but not many. WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!

Well, maybe someone will be killed, but not many. Apparently anyone who chooses to sit, where the traditional Driver used to sit... I hope they plan to put an air bag in the dashboard of the " front left passenger seat"... ...Or anyone who rides there could very well be killed in a collision. " NO licensed human driver"? So what's to stop young children from hopping in the car and going for a joy ride? Meanwhile, the parents will think they have been kidnapped, and won't know how to find them. " premapped urban areas"? So, I guess this won't be able to be used in the Country, dirt roads or in parking garages... Well, the article does basically say that GM considers these cars are for: " commercial passenger ride-sharing fleet service". In other words... City TAXI Service. So not for sale to the every day consumers. Still, It really bothers me that these Demolition Man/Total Recall/Transformers/Knight Rider type vehicles... could go rouge from a malfunction, or getting hacked by terrorists (Skynet?)... and then go on a Demolition/Killing spree... At least if there were some traditional controls, passengers could override the computer by turning it off and taking control... But, No... Let's home the companies that own these potential weapons keep them regularly maintained, and the antivirus software updated. It not the problems that they have planned for, that are of a concern... it's the problems that they have NOT planned for, that are... A computer program is only as good as the idiot that programmed it... and they are not good at dealing with the unknown.
