Sylvester Stallone had a pretty decent year with 1993. There was the humorous Demolition Man but first came this mountainous masterpiece. The opening is so tense the rest of the film frankly can't live up to it. Still, it's pretty standard Stallone fare with some satisfying kills, a nefarious villain, and a few decent one-liners. Film is aided largely by it's visually impressive location shooting. Rex Linn gets most of the best lines as a perpetually frustrated treasury agent. Stallone and Rooker would later reunite 24 years later in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

I thought that "CLIFFHANGER" was an Alright Movie. I liked John Lithgow as the Main Villain in it.

6/10. One of his 'in the middle' action films. Demolition Man was the better '93 release.

Good film. I like the cast, especially Lithgow completely off his rocker.

Great movie. Exciting set-pieces, lots of colourful characters and all the villains are despicable in their own ways. It was a tough shoot in extreme conditions but somehow they pulled it off.

Haven't seen it in years, but I remember it being good and underappreciated. Don't forget that Stallone and director Renny Harlin reunited for that race car movie "Driven".

I thought Lithgow was a weak villain (maybe it was the accent). But the rest of his group were interesting.
I didnt know they had bats hibernating in the Alps so you learn something too.

Some of the dialogue is clunky too.
Lithgow says: "Your friend just had the most expensive funeral in history. Now it's only you."
Doesn't the fact that he had a funeral render the second line unnecessary?

Doesn't the fact that he had a funeral render the second line unnecessary? That is nitpicking imo. I don't have a problem with the second line even if it is unnecessary.

The opening is so good, the parody of it in Ace Ventura 2 was still tense for me as a kid.
But yeah, solid action flick.
