I lost interest in this story in the 90s. I moved on and let it go, I suggest the rest of the world move on with their lives. It's just not interesting anymore. Also, Margot Robbie is way too hot to play that ugly bitch. |

Tonya Harding is despicable. Why was a film made about this criminal? Because, as depicted in the movie, the abusive idiot ex-husband and the complete moron "bodyguard" were behind what was supposed to be a mere death threat that turned into the attack on Nancy Kerrigan. Plus, the movie takes on the issues of Tonya Harding's upbringing (all too typical on its own) and the uphill battle Harding faced as a competitive figure skater. The only consequence Harding got was just a lifetime ban from figure skating, you sanctimonious punk. Oh, and it's clear Oscar bait for Margot Robbie, who'll probably earn her first Best Actress Oscar nod. "sanctimonious punk"?! I'm puzzled by why this film was made. Tonya Harding is not an interesting criminal steeped in literature like Jesse James, John Dillinger, Bruce Reynolds (Great Train Robbery in England in 1963) or Bruno Hauptman and others. She is low IQ trailer trash who was the second best skater in America. As I recall she was complicit in the disgusting attack on Nancy Kerrigan. This film apparently tries to make her a victim. Nancy Kerrigan was #1. Tonya Harding was #2. Tonya's thug boyfriend bashes Nancy Kerrigan's leg so Harding will go to the Olympics. Tonya Harding is not a hero. She is not an interesting antihero like John Dillinger. I don't see why this film was made and why anyone would want to buy a ticket. "Oh, and it's clear Oscar bait for Margot Robbie, who'll probably earn her first Best Actress Oscar nod." I stopped caring what happens at the Oscars many years ago. I never watch them but I will read results and some reviews the following day. Awards ceremonies for actors, singers and entertainers no longer appeal to me. Perhaps you are right. I don't care. Margot Robbie is far more attractive than Tonya Harding. |

There are many, many films about bad people. I, Tonya doesn't seem anything new. Look at Raging Bull - It's a true story about people of questionable character but is a bloody masterpiece. Exactly. It's nothing really new. Many of the best films aren't always made about decent people. A lot can be based on the most notorious people, those with questionable morals, and others with a new side of the story. I mean, Quentin Tarantino is currently working on a film about the Mason family. Would you consider that any different from many of the rest? They probably figured a film about how a former figure skater forever became associated with the infamous attack on her rival would make for a good subject. Something that has been unheard in a sports related biopic. |

Nancy Kerrigan marrying her 10+ years older manager, and a family tragedy- which became a legal matter- could make an interesting movie. Or maybe not.
Though Olympic medals eluded her, Michelle Kwan was far better than Kerrigan.

I do agree that it's a surprisingly good film. But I also took an interest since I grew up in Portland & Harding was all over the news (before & after her infamy).

So that my acting queen, Allison Janney, could win that Oscar I predicted for her years ago.
Tonya was/is a complicated individual, and may or may not have been responsible for some of the things she got blamed for, the movie gets some drama from all this.
