Post the Top 10 Classics (Made Before 1980) From Your Watchlist: 01. La Dolce Vita (1960) I believe I recently just missed a showing of this on TCM. 02. Pinocchio (1940) Have never seen it, I've even been to Pinocchio's hometown of Piza, but have yet to see the movie. This is typical of me, I seemed to have avoided most Disney animated movies throughout my childhood. 03. White Heat (1949) I do have this recorded from TCM, so it won't be long now. 04. The African Queen (1951) Ditto for this movie, also recorded off TCM. 05. Eraserhead (1977) I started watching this once, for about five minutes, so bizarre! 06. Deep Red (1975) A well respected horror movie that has eluded me all these years. 07. Would You Kill a Child? (1976) Some random UK horror that was suggested to me way back. 08. Race With the Devil (1975) Peter Fonda action flick that sounded interesting. 09. Lady and the Tramp (1955) See #2 above, I will see these Disney movies, as God is my witness! 10. Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? (1971) Some strange sounding horror movie with Shelley Winters, I seem to be collecting them. Is "slew" even a word?

You're in for a treat when you watch Deep Red and Race With The Devil. I love both of those movies.

The only Cagney movie I've ever seen was his last, Ragtime! BUT you have realized the error of your ways and are catching up now so....
White Heat and African Queen are right at the top of my forever films list.

Just as Carl LaFong recommended White Heat (1949), MY recommendation is The African Queen (1951)--a very entertaining movie from beginning to end, and based on a good British novelist too.

01. The Iron Horse (1924, John Ford) - I love Madge Bellamy!
02. Ikiru (1952, Akira Kurosawa) - Perhaps the most famous Kurosawa movie I've not yet seen. It's meant to be brilliant.
03. Smiles Of A Summer Night (1955, Ingmar Bergman) - A classic that's so far eluded me. I think I might end up loving it, based upon what I've heard (and my passion for 1950s Bergman).
04. The Iron Petticoat (1956, Ralph Thomas) - A pair of megastars face off in a cold war farce from British comedy maestro Ralph Thomas? It's Katharine Hepburn & Bob Hope.
05. Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison (1957, John Huston) - I might have seen this before, but if so, it was a long time ago. It's on tv, I need to tune in. It sounds like a nice companion piece to 'The African Queen' (1951).
06. Mannequin In Red (1958, Arne Mattsson) - A must-see for its influence on the Italian giallo crime subgenre which I love.
07. The Music Man (1962, Morton DaCosta) - teleadm turned me on to this musical by Iowan Meredith Wilson and now I gotta see it!
08. Je T'aime Je T'aime (1968, Alain Resnais) - I own a lot of movies on dvd that typically fall under the 'French New Wave' banner. I've never seen this sci-fi picture from Alain Resnais which intrigues me, especially as I view a couple of his earlier pictures as psychological horrors. This could be a hidden genre gem like Andrzej Wajda's miraculous Stanislaw Lem adaptation 'Przekladaniec' (1968) from the same year.
09. Ludwig (1973, Luchino Visconti) - JulieKohler recommended this to me and I'd like to see it. The dvd is very expensive but it's high on my watchlist.
10. Critical Care (1997, Sidney Lumet) - I recently saw 'Find Me Guilty' (2006) which I found interesting and enjoyable. Here's a Sidney Lumet medical drama that fell through the cracks (he's a director whose film work I rarely find anything less than fascinating).

Throne of Blood is the big name Kurosawa film, I've managed to miss. I wasn't a big fan of Ikiru to be honest. My top 3 are Ran, Dersu Uzala and The Idiot. I quite like the only other two I've seen from your list Smiles of a Summer Night (A little atypical for Bergman, perhaps his lightest film, but still very much his) and Je 'Taime Je 'Taime.

I have made some progress this week, I finally watched The African Queen and loved it! Has Bogart ever been more lovable, I don't recall! He and Hepburn bounce off each other in the most adorable way.

Unfortunately many world cinema classics on my watch list are currently unavailable on DVD or have no Eng, subtitles. Not a one, and no english subtitles is not helping any of us, I'm afraid. You never know this year ? with the growing demand many small companies are sourcing & releasing hard to find classic titles, always a surprise in store among those new release e-mails... On my watch list but not for much longer, released just last week , Charles Starrett starring in a 10 film 1946-52 ... "The Durango Kid Collection"

Shintarรด Katsu a highlight as always, not giving any more away I noticed also a few excellent Art Theatre Guild Tittles, I did not do any reviews this week on the watch thread, but did write a rave on the ATG. Akio Jissรดji's Buddhist trilogy Mujล, Mandara , and Uta is profoundly philosophical art-house cinema, however I did write these two words for Mandara on the weekly watch thread 2 weeks ago "Deeply Disturbing" Happy Japanese Classic Viewing to you...
