I finally got around to watching my DVR'd recording of Max Ophul's The Earrings of Madame de... (1953) last night. TCM intro/outro was provided by guest programmer Candice Bergen, speaking with the late Robert Osborne (R.i.P.).
Anyway, I was curious about actress Danielle Darrieux, who played the lead female role in that film. I was surprised to see she's still alive, and, will turn 100 years old here on May 1. Lovely actress... She was born in France during the time of World War One!

I've not seen much of Max Ophuls' early work but I enjoy some of his late career pictures I've seen (like this one made in France). They say he had a special bond with Danielle Darrieux with whom he wished he could have worked a little more than his time allowed.

Back in the days of Sky Channel, i did see her in "The Rage of Paris" 1938 a Universal triffle with Douglas Fairbanks Jr and crazy Micha Auer, she apparently did a one pic deal with Universal, very unusual back then.
She also appeared in MGM Rich, Young and Beautiful, Alexander the Great 1956 (where she was evil), and the romantic The Greengage summer with Kenneth More.
The latest I've seen Danielle was in 8 Women musical, the usual trouble with french films if they talk to much, I tend to look more at subtitles than see the actual film, though good old Danielle was great
