For example, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987) tried to cash-in on the popular trading cards.
Roller Boogie (1979) cashed in on the roller-skating-disco fad.
Twist Around the Clock (1961) tried to cash-in on the "twist" dance craze.
What are some other films designed to cash in on a fad?

I read the reviews on IMDb and it sounds dumb. Mind you, there's nothing wrong with dumb movies....

Or the Emoji movie, for which I wonder how dated it will seem 100 years from now. There's a film from 1905 called "The Whole Dam Family and the Dam Dog" (cashing in on a popular postcard) which gives an idea of how incomprehensible a film cashing in on a fad can be years later.

Ride the Wild Surf and The Endless Summer
Saturday Night Fever tried to cash in on the disco phenomenon, though it ended up critical of it.

The pair of early 90's Lambada dance movies, one entitled The Forbidden Dance, and the other simply named after the style of dance. Both, in an eerie foretelling, failed at the box office. The Lambada dance didn't really catch on in America.

You mean a 100+ year old film seems dated? I never would have guessed.

You mean a 100+ year old film seems dated? I never would have guessed. There's different degrees of "dated". The Corner in Wheat (1909) is still entertaining, and still makes sense for modern viewers, the storyline is still relevant. The Watermelon Patch (1905), on the other hand, is no longer entertaining and is very difficult to understand.

First one that sprung to mind was "The Net" with Sandra Bullock. This came out around the time you could hear that terrible 28k/56k modem screech in more and more homes.
