Someone tagged one of my posts. What does that mean?

I don't see the purpose of tagging, then. I don't get it.

In other words, it's to establish a link between the comment made by the poster to his/her profile, so that others can read it.

I blocked that user who tagged me.

Basically, if someone mentions your name with a link to your profile, it notifies you.

People could do the same thing to you on IMDB, so I don't see the issue....

  Imdb started you out with emailing you whenever someone responded to your thread/post and when you had a pm. that I found insane since I was on imdb more than I was on my email so I turned that off quickly.  

I don't see why it is called tag, though.   I see often above my profile button a little white speak box with a number in it.  I would click on the profile tab and the white speak box would be under the notifications tab.  I would click on notifications and there would be the entire list of what happened.   who liked my post from the so-and-so thread, or who quoted you in the so-and-so thread.
