I've paid attention to the amount of active users on the forum ever since IMDB closed. For consistency around the same hours (8-10pm)
In the days after IMDB went down there were roughly 230-250 users online at one time.
Then compare to the numbers in the past few days and they've been closer to 130-150 users online.
That's a hefty decline. The amount of users online in the past 24 hours has also decreased by a similar proportion.
Posts seem to be slowing down. Before I'd refresh the home page every few seconds only to see that there'd be new posts. As of right now though there hasn't been a new post in the past 3 minutes.
The forum gained 2,000 users in it's first 3 weeks by the time IMDB closed. In the 2 weeks since it's only gained another 700 users.
This is exactly what I was concerned and said was going to happen. The forum would boom following IMDB's closure as regulars would want to keep the board experience alive but over time people would get over it being gone.
Users would start to show up less, there'd be fewer posts, less activity, creating a snowball effect until the forum died. I said before I'd be surprised if the forum was still active a few months after IMDB closed down and I still see that as being a strong possibility.

So what if the forum is slowing down?
It's still the busiest one out of all the replacement ones out there... And if this place dies, they will all die...
So instead of complaining about it, why don't you come up with a solution instead?

It's like a new tv show that just premiered, the ratings are high for a couple of weeks and then start to dwindle.
I think this forum will be fine.

imho the reason for the decline is the the lack of content. the content of imdb is the database. without a database a forum is useless. the pricks from amazon and the prick colneedham knew this. there will be no replacement . unfortunately.

While it's admittedly not convenient to have no database right here on the same site as one is posting, I'm just using Wikipedia to look up what I need about basic movie information and statistics. You can have it open on another window while discussing movies. I kind had to do the same thing on IMDb anyway -- be posting on a message board but open up another tab to check out the movie's actual info page.

There's already a full replacement to IMDB: www.themoviedb.org/It has everything IMDB had, basically message boards to every movie, TV show and actor in existence. And IMDB2 is gonna nowhere. It's still pretty consistent. IMDB2 needs to try to create individual message boards to movies, TV shows and actors as well.

I'm going to say this again as I feel it is rather relevant to this thread.
For a start this is forum is called IMDb V2, now that implies it is meant to be about movies and TV shows. I didn't even know that IMDB had a political board until I joined here and found out that the Admin was a member of it. That said perhaps this site could be called IMDB Political chat or something similar. At least let people know what they are signing up for.
The Political posts most of which are mindless trolling now far outnumber actual movie and TV posts. Politics is divisive and as most people argue subjectively, things get heated and as they do genuine members lose respect for the site and either leave or just start posting anything they like themselves.
There is also absolutely zero moderation here, hate speech and blatant trolling prevail and if the site itself doesn't go down because of that the Service Provider will decide that they do not want to be associated with this mess of a forum and shut it down.
I have gone through the boards and noticed in early Feb there were more genuine posts, more Film and TV discussion that has almost faded away completely now.
It's also rather sad that the Admin and the Mods find it acceptable that people should have to put up with abuse and trolling. That attitude is what led to IMDb shutting down their forums.

heck, we have all the ingredients. we have a board that has established entries for thousands of movies: tmdb. we have archives of the old imdb boards: imdbarchive we have a board with an archive AND links to the imdb site: moviechat and we have a vivid board with decent traffic and users from all over the place: imdb2 just merge all these boards and we have a new and better imdb board! once the shield is down, our cruisers will create a board, while our fighters fly into the superstructure and attempt to knock out the main reactor.

Someone said: So instead of complaining about it, why don't you come up with a solution instead?
Let me know what that solution is and I will do all I can to help. Before the message boards closed on IMDB I promoted this place almost daily.

Define "forum", and no it isn't.

At terrygg: It seems to me, that a lot of people have a lot to talk about around here. I see all kinds of topics being discussed, and some that I have to wonder, why they are being brought up in the first place.
To the rest of the posters...
If members would just focus on talking about movies, and politics, and other things... instead ...of talking about which site is better, or when this site will die... Maybe members would be more inclined to hang around, and new members might join.

People are going to have to donate to pay for an upgrade to start a database for this site.
A donation button will have to be created.
Then ad revenue should pick up and help pay for the bandwith.
