...and he just said that he does on his visit to Chile. Seeking forgiveness for the harm of the Church's sex abuse scandal, Pope Francis said, "I am one with my brother bishops, for it is right to ask for forgiveness and make every effort to support the victims, even as we commit ourselves to ensuring that such things do not happen again." abcnews.go.com/International/pope-francis-begs-forgiveness-harm-caused-sex-abuse/story?id=52378764
"Make every effort to support the victims." Then why does the Catholic Church consistently lobby against proposed legislation that extends the amount of time that victims have to bring lawsuits against parishes? Does Francis mean that he seeks to support the victims, but only as long as that support doesn't cost the Church much money?

How long of a time is it extended and is it different than if some run of the mill sex abuser? Time extension proposals vary by state. But wherever they are proposed the church lobbies against them. And I assume that clergy abusers and non-clergy abusers get equal treatment. I expect that to do otherwise would be unconstitutional. Are you going to be answering my question on your Faithleaks thread?

It would appear that for Catholic Clergy, they do not have a statute of limitations. as they do for other criminals, with the exception of homicide.

Maybe. I haven't been back to the thread after reading the letters. Anyway...What state is a clergyman getting a different sentence than a layperson? I'm trying to ask the question carefully since I don;t want to be accused of being a Catholic next. I'll look for an example.

Guess.
And it isTRUE. However, you will NOT BELIEVE IT BECAUSE IT COMES FROM A Roman Catholic SOURCE.
So why should I bother?

It's the old "We're with you in spirit but not in practice" bullshit.

Anyway...What state is a clergyman getting a different sentence than a layperson? This is not about sentences. I'm talking about civil lawsuits, and the time limits that victims have to file them. The church fights against extending those limits.
