Been watching these again. How do you like them?
1.The Silence of the Lambs - 9/10 - Great thriller.
2.Manhunter - 6/10 - Thhis one is relatively new to me. The first hour is kinda dull but the second half really picks up.
3.Red Dragon - 6/10 - Good but I liked it a little less since I seen Manhunter.
4.Hannibal - 5/10 - Well directed its just the lack of Jodi Foster kinda wrecks the film. The chemestry between Hannibal and Clarice is just not there.
5.Hannibal Rising - 3/10 - Very boring.

It's funny, as much as I loved the television series and just the character of Lecter, the movies range from solid to mediocre for me. The one I enjoyed most was by Brett f^cking Ratner. Hadn't seen Hannibal or Hannibal: Rising yet.
Red Dragon (7/10)
The Silence of the Lambs (6/10)
Manhunter (5/10

1. The Silence of the Lambs 10/10 - My favorite movie
2. Hannibal - 8/10 - I like Julianne Moore a lot in it and I accept her as a worn down Starling. Gary Oldman is fucking awesome in it, Hans Zimmer's score is very unsettling, Ridley Scott's directing is top notch and the script is nuts in a good way. It's wondefully OTT.
3. Red Dragon - 7.5/10 - I much prefer the way Francis Dolorhyde is handled in this movie and Ralph Fiennes's performance is just more intersting than Tom Noonan's. Noonan plays it very typical "crazy guy."
4. Manhunter - 6.5/10 - The ending is very disappointing imo. Ironically Michael Mann is one of my favorite directors and Brett Ratner usually sucks.
5. Hannibal Rising - 4/10 - Showing us Lector's back story is a terrible idea and the movie just isn't very well written even if you watch it as it's own thing and the directing isn't very good.

Manhunter is my fav. Excellent 80's movie. "You've seen this film, haven't you my man?" Great to see another fan of Manhunter. Easily the most unsettling and scary of all the Hannibal Lecter films, and without having to rely on cheap scares and somebody to spoonfeed you through the entire story (Brett Ratner) "The man is a joke – he couldn't direct traffic, much less a film" - Brian Cox. I wish someday it will find its way to a Criterion Collection Blu-ray such as another fine 80s crime classic of Michael Mann with Thief (1981). Two very haunting scenes which I think showcases how beautiful Manhunter was not just visually but also by a fantastic use of music as well.

I cannot guarantee that you will find it any better a second time around, but I understand how you feel. I was probably a bit "bored" out when I first saw it too, expected more considering Michael Mann and that it was the first Hannibal Lecter movie, however it grew on me quickly when re-watching it later on. The first hour was kinda long but when I re-visited it, I began to enjoy it much more as I found the police/detective/crime stuff to be very interesting and I liked that it took its while and gave William Petersen (who did an amazing job here) time to build things up and also how it affected his own family, before we then get to the arrival of The Toothfairy (Noonan).
