I used to work for the school district in Long Beach, California. It used to be a big Navy Base, but when they pulled out, there was a large housing area that was abandoned. So,e of this land was turned over to the schools, and a new high school was built, but federal law has also called for some of the housing to be used for homeless military veterans.
Now, you might ask what this has to do with James Earl Jones? Along with homeless vets, comes their children. Our school system needed to create a school environment for children who had not attended school and were homeless. They were given shower facilities and place to wash clothes. If the kids were around long enough, some would transfer to regular schools.
Jones came to read stories to these kids, most would have had no chance to even know who he was. I am sure he made an impression.
On a side note: The person who ran the housing development at the time was Steve Peck, the son of actor Gregory.

Happy B-day to James Earl Jones, who I think has one of the best voices of any actor ever (he's right up there in my Top 5). The fact that he could voice the most villainous villain ever as Darth Vader, and then also voice Mufasa, who was at the opposite end of the spectrum as far as fathers go, showed just how wide a range he was capable of. His voice commands the screen and is capable of sounding very evil...or very kind, giving a feeling of warmth (as in The Lion King). And then there were roles where he was even quite funny. Totally^ what Darth Vader would do with Mufasa if the two ever met. While I've probably only seen him in a relatively 'small' percentage of the movies he's done, I've liked him in most of them. He's just always been likeable in the majority of roles I've seen him in (even if he didn't seem the most 'likeable' character). So, here's to a great actor with one of the best voices ever.

What is amazing is that he says that, as a child, he was a stutter and when he went to school, the kids made such fun of him that he stopped talking at all from the age of around 5 until he was 14.
A great teacher effected the cure by having him recite poetry to the class on a daily basis.
Seems to have worked !

Oftentimes people say they could listen to an actor/actress read the phone book, but I think in the case of James Earl Jones, not only would that be true, but it'd be equally enthralling listening to him recite poetry. That voice is just amazing/one-of-a-kind.

Q: Who was the first-ever Sesame Street guest star?— A: More than 600 celebrities have visited Sesame Street over the years, and James Earl Jones, got the ball rolling in 1969 with a slow, solemn recitation of the alphabet. The actor paused between each letter, giving kids time to guess the next one, and producers liked his style so much, they dubbed it the “James Earl Jones Effect.”
