What a joy you've been through the years for so many people in so many venues. With a career spanning 72 years and still working today, you are a genuine national treasure. Happy 96th birthday, Ms. White. May it be a joyous one, with many more to come. Thanks for the wonderful memories. What a beauty she was in her thirties (as she is now in her nineties) Betty, with husband, tv host, Allen Ludden (those were the days - Password/What's My Line!) Who can ever forget her on The Mary Tyler Moore Show? Or on The Golden Girls? Forever the animal lover and activist In person and on the page And to wrap it up, from then to now and beyond: Thanks, Betty, for all you do, have done, and will continue to do! ![]()

Beautiful pix, Spidey. LOVE those adorable animals.
BTW, have you ever noticed that in all photos of THE GOLDEN GIRLS, Betty, Rue, and Estelle are smiling, but Bea is tight-lipped and even sometimes angry (as in your photo)?
Of course, BATouttaheck is gonna bite my head off (again!) for being "negative", but I'd really like an answer to that question.

Don't think she's ever been off TV or out of work in my lifetime. She's responsible for so many hours of entertainment, happy birthday Betty.

As I mentioned in the previous happy birthday post, "Life with Elizabeth" was among the first American series to be shown on Australian TV (back in 1956).
"Date with the Angels" (1957-1958) didn't get shown here though....a shame, it wasn't a bad series although I read Betty White was unhappy with it.
"The Golden Girls" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" both got shown though. Believe it or not, her short-lived 1977-1978 series "The Betty White Show" also got shown here.

Happy Birthday, Bette White! Thanks for all the great TV characters and for your work with the animals!! Why doesn't Ms. White have the same presence here as she did on the old IMDb message boards?
Bea Arthur looked sour probably because: 1. She was just posing for the photos in character; her character was sardonic at best and mean and insulting at worst. 2. Arthur never really got along with either Rue McClanahan or Bette White; McClanahan even stated in an interview after the show ended that Arthur hated White and once, after getting drunk at an awards show, called White a very ugly name. Bette White claimed that Arthur didny't care for her (White's) happy-go-lucky disposition. She also liked to joke around with the audience between takes, while Arthur liked to stay in character and didn't like White's breaking character in order to do so. Arthur believed herself to be the better actress and was jealous of White's winning an Emmy before she did. Maybe that's why she wasn't as hostile towards Estelle Getty; Getty often stated that she felt she wasn't as good an actress as the others, so Arthur probably didn't feel the need to compete with her to such a degree.

Here's another from my account, again from her mid-1950s daytime show. It is an interesting 10-minute "Wish Day" segment featuring a child. Please excuse the very poor picture quality, I think it's a 568th generation copy or something:
