I have memories of a movie about a family camping and for some reason the parents are in a car or an RV when it dries off a cliff. The kid sees it. I think his grandparents are with him. I want to say that this was a made-for-TV movie, possibly a Disney one.
I honestly couldn't tell you if you were right or wrong, but thanks!
You are welcome. If that's not the one I hope someone else can find it for you.
I think you might be right. I don't remember anything about the movie of the things that scene. I was able to find a scene like I described and it didn't look vaguely familiar.
I think I remember that movie. It's called SMOKE. Smoke was a dog. It starred Ronny Howard and Earl Holliman. It was on Wonderful World of Disney back in the early 70's.
The movie is here. The car wreck is at the 1 hour and 20 minute mark.

Earl Holliman: fixture of early 1970s tv. My favorite tv movie of his is the one he did where James Brolin is locked in a department store with killer security dogs (established beautifully by the fact that the guard dog trainer is wearing padded armor from head to foot AND limping) and Holliman is marrying his ex-wife. The wife is taking their daughter to another state--and wants to leave on their expected flight--but Holliman is adamant that they stay so the child can see her father because he doesn't want her to regard him as "that guy who took away her daddy."
Caligula: Do you think I'm mad?...Sometimes I think that I'm going mad. Do you — be honest with me — has that thought ever crossed your mind?
Claudius: Never. Never. The idea is preposterous. You set the standard of sanity for the whole world.

That sounds a bit like Thelma and Louise 2.0. Thelma and Louise get married, have a son with a sperm donor and go off the cliff for old time's sake. Well, I tried.
