It's a hard question because there's so many aspects of society, but overall I'd say worse

Worse, thanks to the vast wasteland that is social media. I sometimes wish the Internet had never been invented.

...consider:
100 years ago there were fewer than 2 billion people living on earth. Today, 100 years later there are 7 + billion people. Even though the human race has managed to exterminate more than 100 million people in the last 100 years, the human race continues on a suicide course that can only get worse...

In my case, worse. Seems to be taking two steps backward for one forward.

Whenever this subject comes up, I am reminded of the movie It's A Wonderful Life (1946), and the glimpse George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) gets, courtesy of his guardian angel Clarence, of just what kind of horrible town his beloved Bedford Falls would have turned into, if he had never been born, and the evil Mr Potter (Lionel Barrymore) had been allowed to transform it into 'Potterville'. Suffice it to say, that with each passing day, I get the distinct impression our world is moving more and more in a 'Potterville' direction, than that of the idyllic Bedford Falls...... SAVE FERRIS

It's better. Gay marriage, abortion rights, civil rights, women's rights.
Whatever issues people may have (most are the same our parents had about us and our grandparents had about them, etc), these things trump them all. We've gotten better.

While I agree that societal laws have progressed, finally, it's societal norms which make me want to live in a smaller city. Ppl have begun carrying themselves in ordinary life as they would troll online without fear. Outrage culture is also a thing I try not to participate in. Everyone can be outraged at something, & yet in this day & age, everyone acts on everything... it's f'n backwoods. I'm not talking the big cultural issues, I'm talking outrage for the sake of it.

That's fairly new though like within the last 10 years. It's been growing rapidly though. Especially with the young people

"Outrage culture" have existed as long as humanity, it's just what we get outraged about that has changed. It wasn't that long ago people got outraged by a unwed mother, or by people going into church without an hat. They didn't have twitter or facebook, but if they had, they would also have started groups against and for these things calling for action.

I think it's mostly the PC culture that he's referring to which did not exist as long as humanity. There may have been individual things that pissed people off, but that's different.

PC culture is another thing that people have always complained about. It just didn't have that label.
For as long as a group of people have said, "Please don't call us that or treat us that way. It's hurtful," others have complained about not being able to say whatever they want and that people are just too sensitive.
It's like people are arguing for their right to be a dick in public. Which, fine, they're allowed to. But they want to get away with it with no consequences. Sorry, that's not going to happen. That's not a right.

It doesn't bother me if people want to act on something. It's preferable to acting on nothing. It doesn't even have to be something big. Sometimes, the smallest acts can be meaningful. Who'd've thought decades later we'd still be honoring a woman who wouldn't change seats on a bus?

I remember reading about a viking man bringing another viking to court, because that man had called him something bad. So obviously, they also didn't think it was okay to call people names.

So that whole period when the church forced people to be a specific way, is something you never heard about? Humanity has not changed in thousands of years, just the worldly things.
