Sanford & Son All in the Family The Office Dear John Threes Company/The Ropers/Threes A Crowd
Has anyone seen both the original UK shows and the US remakes? How do they compare?
I really liked The Office & enjoyed Dear John, but would say I prefer the originals.

I have seen Steptoe and son and prefer that to Sanford and son.
I can't stand either Office. Can't find the humor in encasing someone's stapler in gelatin.

I was never really that fond of Steptoe and Son, they seemed to me to have such sad lives. haven't seen Sanford and son. I liked Till death Us Do part, found all in the Family rather bland by comparison. I haven 't seen either version of The Office. I quite liked man About the House, though I prefered Robin 's Nest. haven 't seen there's a Crowd. Dear john was okay, I haven 't seen the American version.

I was never really that fond of Steptoe and Son, they seemed to me to have such sad lives. It started out like a tragi-comic Samuel Beckett play. I think it kind of appealed to me because it was so different to other sitcoms. Plus it had two great actors in the lead.

I haven't seen any of the UK counterparts to these shows. I just wanted to comment about how The Ropers' opening sequence featured Norman Fell happily shaking a plumber's helper. Yeah.

The British version of Three's Company aired in the US when Three's Company became a huge hit. But I don't think it lasted very long.

I didn't see the British versions of the shows that you listed, however:
British Being Human > North American Being Human
British Broadchurch > North American Gracepoint
There are others, but these are off the top of my head.

Not seen Gracepoint, but US Being Human was terrible I've seen a few pilots of US remakes of UK TV shows...Fawlty Towers, IT Crowd....but the worst ever has to be Spaced.

Gracepoint was 98% the same script as Broadchurch season 1. David Tennant was in this version too, as the same role, which made it weird.
