How about data? Dayta Dahta Darta
I say dayta which I think is more of a UK pronunciation. I think some Americans say dahta.

Doghouse6Same English friend (the Welch's grape one ) had a laughing fit when I pronounced Tintagel Castle as Tint-a-gel. Seems it's supposed to be Tin- ta-jell. I had only seen it in print and had never heard the word spoken. BUT he was "gotten back" when he was asked to pronounce the New York town of Mamaroneck. He said, as if easy as pie, Mama-ro-neck. It's actually Ma-mare-o-neck.
I know some USA folks who say shed-yule. UGH

Wait till the folks in Shen-neck-tah-dee hear about that! Honestly, those English: they act like they invented the language.

For a change a town website actually did give the pronoun-si-a-tune. Most with hard names don't bother. Schenectady / s k ɪ ˈ n ɛ k t ə d i / (ski-NEK-tə-dee) is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat This one didn't Schermerhorn - is said : SKer -ma- horn
My dad was a big one for made up deliberate mis-pronunciations for fun. BUT, now that I wrote that, I cannot for the life of me remember a single one ! I know you know my oft used "I did it on porpoise" . Doghouse6<groan>

For years I spelled February Febuary and the teachers never said anything.
I hate it when people type loose when they mean lose. Damn spelling loosers.

Melk - not sure, have said it as long as I can remember. I occasionally get it corrected or pointed out. Mouse - I have seen that film once, a while back but don't recall the scene. It's just something I said once, chocolate mouse, and liked the sound of it

Fox in the Snow Am pretty sure that the Ruth Gordon character calls mousse "mouse" ... great character ! Maybe I picked it up from there without realising. Need to rewatch some classic Polanski one of these days.
