PREDATOR was an action sci-fi movie with elements that lent themselves to world-building. However, it was also a horror movie that relied on hiding the villain. Whenever we saw him, he wore a mask. We didn't see his face until the last part. How do you make a sequel that expands the mythology but also keeps the element of surprise? I think all you need is the right atmosphere, something THE PREDATOR fails to get right even from the very beginning. It's a sequence that was written, filmed and scored like a space opera (that would be fine if the rest of the movie was like that, but it isn't). The title character doesn't get a visual introduction; he's just... there. No, I'm not being so harsh just because PREDATORS set the bar so high with its opening. While I never felt any of the main characters in this franchise were complex or compelling, this was the first installment where I was rooting against the heroes. The comedic dialogue is unfunny and even kind of dumb, which shocked me considering this was co-written and directed by Shane Black. Speaking of, this movie, just like KISS KISS BANG BANG and THE NICE GUYS, shows moments of violence and/or pain in a nonchalant way. The difference is that those 2 movies did it for laughs, while this one seems to be serious about it. It comes off as awkward (especially when a certain character on top a bus falls down), just like the editing in some scenes. 3/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.

I liked Brody better than expected and it was rated R at least. But the movie felt tired. People act like Brody just walked off the set of The Pianist, but he was jacked in that movie. I agree, the problem was the story, which felt like a stale rehash of the original mixed with things from AVP. I'm actually looking forward to this one, though I'm preparing for a more light-hearted movie considering the casting and Shane Black's style. But the original also had a lot of funny moments, so maybe it'll work. Jesus.  |

Disappointed in Black and bummed for Dekker that this wasn't the comeback I had my fingers crossed for all these years. Stale humor, dull action, too many unfunny and obnoxious characters. Yeah, watched this the other night and it's a total dud. I was barely even entertained on a base, lizard-brain level (which even the AvP films managed to achieve). Disappointed in Black and bummed for Dekker that this wasn't the comeback I had my fingers crossed for all these years. Stale humor, dull action, too many unfunny and obnoxious characters. None of it worked for me. True. While not great films, I find them to at least have memorable moments or ideas. Expectations were low, and they were met. I know “Requiem” cops it big time, and it’s mostly well deserved, but the father and son scene in the woods, and the hospital set-piece I find hard to forget. “The Predator” is just all round forgettable and that’s disappointing especially with those involved. |

The worst film of 2018 in my book! an insult to the character and such bad direction, terrible CGI blood, laughable giant predator, an idea that autistic people are the next step in evolution (such an insult to those with Asperg and autism) and horrible script.
The Predaturd is more like it.
I admire Fred Dekker for Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps, Tales from the crypt episodes and House (1985) and Shane Black for his 80s/90s stuff but lately they made terrible comebacks and this one just like Predators and AVP 1 and 2 are hurting the legacy of Predator. To me the last worthwhile Predator movie was 2 and i never get the flack it got as i love Predator 2. Now Fox is hurting Alien as well after Aliens and turning them into jokes. Put this franchise to bed already before you hurt it's legacy.
Zero stars.

Looks like my prediction came true. What a surprise.
Brody--the problem was -he was way too beta to be the tough guy. And they overcompensated for it by ludicrous displays of macho like beating up a predator. Arnie was only able to tickle one.
Similar thing with Shia Labouef in Transformers when he jumps on Megatron and defeats him.

I log onto IMDBv2.0 because my life in the real world sucks - and to feel better about myself I hate on others on the internet and it makes me feel better about myself temporarily - but then I wake up and hate myself and then log on to hate on others - it's a vicious cycle.
