I just finished Odyssey 5, which was planned for 5 seasons, but cancelled after one.
Damn, I would really have loved to see the rest of that story.

Most recently finished Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery on Blu-ray. **spoilers below** Well...I think I liked this season a more than last season. The fact that Michael formed friendships with the crew helped, as it made me like her more. It’s still a problem that the character I’m least interested in is the show’s ‘lead’ - though, to be fair, that’s not entirely true, as a new character who was introduced this season ended up being one that I was even less interested in than Michael. At least I don’t despise Michael, whereas I flat-out hate the new character of Jett Reno. Her flat delivery of lines/snark might be something others find amusing, but I felt completely the opposite in regards to her attempts at ‘humour’. I’ve seen this type of character on other shows, and it’s even more disappointing that the writers clearly love her, as it means we’re stuck with this unpleasant/unfunny person for the foreseeable future. Every time she appeared onscreen it elicited an “ Ugh” reaction from me and I kept hoping her character would be offed...but no such luck. The prospect of seeing even more of her next season is a major turn-off for me. Meanwhile, a snarky character done right is 'Mirror Georgiou'. She was my favourite character last season, and she continued to be the highlight of the show this season as well. She may be ‘evil’ at times, but she also brings the funny. She had so many great lines/moments this season. She's a complex character, and I was never quite sure what she was going to do – and that’s part of why she’s one of the most interesting characters in the show for me. Another significant part is the fact that she’s played by the very likeable Michelle Yeoh. I was super disappointed that ‘Prime Georgiou’ was killed off in Season 1, but Emperor Georgiou’s even better. She’s so entertaining, and I heard rumours of her getting a spin-off. If that’s so, than Michelle Yeoh totally deserves it, as she’s brought so much to the role. She made Michael more interesting in the scenes they shared (their ‘relationship’ to each other allowed for an interesting dynamic). It's also always great when they let Michelle Yeoh kick arse onscreen, as she does it so believably. Anson Mount as Captain Pike was the other highlight of this season. I know some people were upset over Lorca from last season and his sudden but inevitable betrayal...however, I think Pike was better as his replacement. He was instantly likeable, had some amusing lines, and didn’t lose it at certain crewmembers (even when they were speaking to him in a way that would’ve gotten them into trouble with any other captains, most likely). He was a fair, understanding captain and I was horrified to learn of his eventually fate (just a melty-faced head? Ick!). In the last couple of episodes, when we joined him and his crew on the USS Enterprise, I was enjoying spending time with them so much that I wished that was the show we were watching - this Enterprise crew. I’d heard Rebecca Romijn was going to be joining the show as an already established character named Number One (apparently I missed noticing what her actual name was - turns out it’s Una. I’m annoyed I missed that, as all season I was wondering what her actual name was and why she chose to only go by ‘Number One’). I loved the fact that she had no time for the judgy food replicator. I was disappointed, however, that she was featured so little in the season and didn’t really get to do much, as I liked Rebecca Romijn in the role. I'd very much like to see more of her character. I also grew to not-mind this new young bearded Spock (once they eventually found him, that is. This season could’ve been subtitled ‘The Search for Spock’ due to the amount of talking about him/looking for him until they finally got to him. Seems he’s destined to always have others searching for him). He mightn’t have looked anything like Leonard Nimoy or Zachary Quinto, but he certainly had the deep voice working for him. He was very ‘dry’, but at least he (like Georgiou and Pike) managed to make Michael seem a bit more interesting whenever he interacted with her. I was actually interested in what went on between them and I liked seeing their relationship grow throughout the second half of the season. I have to say, I know people had been complaining about the beard...but I think I preferred young Spock with his beard. He reminded me of Colin Morgan from the TV series Humans. After he shaved, however, I was like, "Gah! Give us back bearded Spock!". Like with Spock, I found Michael’s interaction with her adoptive father and especially her adoptive mother, Amanda (I’m ALWAYS happy to see Mia Kirshner appear in anything), to be interesting. They made me actually care a bit about Michael when they interacted with her. It’s just a shame that the show feels the need to almost literally make Michael’s character the 'centre of the universe'. Everything’s about her/affects her/is connected to her in some way. Maybe if she wasn’t regarded by nearly everyone else as the most fantabulous person ever, it might go a ways towards making her a more likeable character. It’s just that too often it seems like what she says or wants is what everyone else ends up giving into (even if they were originally opposed to it) - such is the power of Michael Burnham’s ‘awesomeness’ in this universe, apparently. Although I'm not overly fond of the character she plays, I will say that Sonequa Martin-Green turned in a really solid performance this season. She was certainly able to go to the emotional places her character needed to when the occasion called for it. I guess it’s not a good sign when I’d much rather be watching a show with young Spock, Pike, Number One and Georgiou over a show about Michael and the Discovery crew. When Season 2 ended with the focus on the Enterprise crew, I was left with an overwhelming feeling of “Give them a spin-off already! I’d totally watch it!”. I’m not sure if it’ll ever happen, but I wish it would. That's not to say I hate the Discovery crew. I still like Tilly - though she occasionally verged a bit too much into the constant babbling/stumbling-over-her-words type of character I’ve seen on far too many shows and am rather sick of at this point. Thankfully, she still remained one the most likeable crewmembers. Doug Jones continued to be one of the main assets of the show, as his Saru added so much to the series. When I thought they really were going to kill him off, that was enough to make me think to myself, “Yep, I’m done with this show.”, but luckily he stuck around (I was legitimately worried, as oftentimes it’s the actors/actresses who have to go through the most extensive make-up in shows that seem to ‘want out’, and I thought that might have been what was going on here). It was interesting learning more about his people and his sister (the Ba’ul were also very creepy and effectively brought to life, all oily and threateningly-voiced). Speaking of characters potentially being offed...one who was most definitely *did* get offed was Airiam. I hadn’t even realised they’d switched actresses playing the role between last season and this one. After reading what happened, it seems like they wanted to keep the original actress who played Airiam on the show...but wanted to get rid of the character (maybe the make-up for her were too expensive or something? Well, better we lose her than Saru, in my opinion). So they had someone else take over the role as Airiam this season, then offed the character, but had the original Airiam actress play another role where she was playing a human (the new blonde, Nilsson, who took over from Airiam). It seems a very odd/roundabout way of doing things, but whatever. It was nice to have at least *one* blonde female crewmember on the ship - especially when there were at least two redheads. Speaking of, I grew to like Detmer a bit more this season. It was good that she and Owosekun got a bit more focus/character development, as did other characters on the bridge. I still don’t really care that much about Ash Tyler (I don’t hate him, but I don’t find him particularly interesting either. Though he was much more interesting with any of the characters but Michael. Their relationship bored me to tears). I’m still not that fond of Stamets either, but at least we got to see him care about Tilly a bit (that alien fungus that took the form of a childhood friend of Tilly’s got on my nerves after a short while and I couldn’t blame Tilly and the others for wanting it gone. Much more likeable was the teenaged alien Queen she met in one of the 'Short Trek' and who featured in the last couple of episodes of Season 2. Unfortunately, I hadn't watched the 'Short Trek' which introduced her character before watching the first proper episode she was in, so when they showed her in the 'Previously on...', I was a bit confused and thought I'd missed an episode. I was also disappointed that not all the 'Short Trek' episodes were included on my Blu-rays. I was really looking forward to seeing the one with Rosa Salazar in it, as I've quickly become a fan of hers. Guess I'll have to watch it on YouTube). As for Dr. Culber, who was killed last season and got to be brought back this season, all I could think was, “What was the point in offing him in the first place?”. Yes, he struggled with being back in the beginning, but by the end of the season he seemed more or less like his old self. I might’ve been more interested in his relationship with Stamets (and the ‘drama’ over Culber adjusting to being back in Stamets’ life) if I liked either of their characters more. I thought the first half the season was quite good, as they seemed to be having mostly ‘self-contained’ stories each episode with bits of ‘mytharc’ sprinkled throughout, and there were some really good episodes too. I was especially surprised/delighted to see Melissa George make a guest star appearance. However, once we found out who the ‘Red Angel’ was, I found my interest waning a bit until we got to the last two episodes of the season - but at least the season final was pretty epic/exciting (even if I didn't fully understand everything that was going on in it...especially what happened with Discovery near the end. I did enjoy Georgiou's gravity-defying fight whilst trapped in the corridor, though). I also thought it was pretty neat how they blended the Star Trek: Discovery theme with the 'classic' Star Trek theme which played over the end credits for the season final. The show certainly went all-out this season in making the series feel 'cinematic' in the way it was shot and the 'scope' of everything. I have no clue where the show is going next. Here’s hoping the show continues to iron out its ‘rough edges’, as I actually quite enjoy this series (even if it mightn't sound like I do).

Hi Raimo47
Not much longer until Christmas time now. Are you looking forward to Christmas and the holidays? Christmas has always been my favourite time of the year and I love the holidays and spending time with my family members like my Aunts, Uncles and cousins who live far away from us now that we usually only get to see once a year for Christmas and I love Christmas music, Christmas movies, Christmas books and Christmas chocolates and lollies (which I sadly can't eat at the moment 'cause I just had a wisdom tooth removed) and as a Horror fan I was wondering if you have watched many Horror Christmas movies 'cause I have seen quite a few over the years and 'Black Christmas' (the original and remake) is a well known one but there are also the 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' franchise and movies like 'Jack Frost 1 and 2', 'Santa's Slay', 'A Christmas Horror Story', 'P2', 'The Children' and 'Better Watch Out' and I often forget 'P2' is a Christmas movie and Rachel Nichols was great in that movie and I liked Bill Goldberg in 'Santa's Slay' and thought that was rather funny in parts.
I am glad you like the Leviathans in 'Supernatural' so far and they made them out to be very hard to defeat to begin with but once the Winchesters worked out their weaknesses they are able to take them down quicker with the exception of some of the more powerful ones like their leader, Dick Roman but it was ultimately their over-reliance of him that was one of the things that got them killed in my opinion and some of them would have fared better on their own like demons instead of following him. I thought it was funny Borax was one of their main weaknesses 'cause that was one of the last things I was expecting to have any effect on them after they had tried so many other things on them and without spoiling anything it takes more than Borax to defeat Dick Roman but their final battle with him is kinda quick and over with like some of the other battles we have seen them have and the Winchesters rarely go into long battles with the villains like 'Buffy' and 'Angel' did for example when they had their big fighting scenes in the final episodes of seasons but they do go all out facing some villains in the latter seasons and have longer fight scenes.
Have you made it up to the episode where Charlie Bradbury joins? She is working for Dick Roman to begin with but doesn't know what he really is and she ends up helping Sam and Dean when she finds out and she becomes a reoccurring character in the future seasons and goes to Oz with Dorothy at one point. Yeah. It is Bobby who dies and returns as a ghost and a lot of fans were disappointed over the show killing both Bobby and Castiel off and sent in complaints about it and they decided to bring Castiel back 'cause of the fans but they couldn't find a way to bring Bobby back permanently that they thought made sense so he had to stay dead and since it was the showrunner, Sera Gamble's idea it ultimately ended up costing her the job. I was surprised when Bobby was killed off 'cause I didn't think they would ever kill that character off and he had become more like a Father to them after their Father died but I think they or Sera in particular wanted Sam and Dean mostly on their own in Season 7 to make it harder for them and that is why they killed off Bobby and Castiel. The three episodes I liked the most were 'Death's Door', 'Of Grave Importance' and 'The Born-Again Identity' and I liked what they did with Castiel towards the end but am glad they made him normal again.
I agree with you said about Oz in 'Buffy' and can see why you didn't like his wolf form and I think Nina's Wolf form was better too and was hoping we would have got to have seen more of her character but since the show was sadly cancelled we didn't. What did you think of Veruca's wolf form? I remember reading she was actually supposed to stay on in the season longer and become friends with Willow while she was secretly trying to get Oz to leave Willow for her but not turn out to be a villain until near the end of the season but the writers changed their minds when Seth Green wanted to leave the show so it was cut early and then they had Willow get together with Tara which they were planning on doing but Oz was supposed to stay around longer and Veruca's betrayal would have been felt more by Willow who would have thought she was her friend. Wow. I didn't know you hated Jason? Is there any particular reason you don't like the character? I like all the 'Friday the 13th' movies but I think Jason was better when he become more of a zombie ghoul type of character 'cause it separated him from other slashers.
Hi DebLovesBeccy, Christmas is my favorite holiday. I have always liked that time of the year, and now when my nieces are little it is even better than before. I'm currently very busy, so I'm really looking forward to a long Christmas vacation. I haven't seen any of those movies you mentioned, but there are some movies that I usually watch at the Christmas time. The only Christmas related movies that I have seen are Die Hard and Die Hard 2. I haven't seen Charlie Bradbury yet. Although I was disappointed with Bobby's death, it was done well and that episode was great. Season 7 has been very good so far, and I think I'll like the rest of the season as well. Veruca's wolf form had the same problems as Oz's wolf form. She was too small and walked with four feet. I prefer very tall bipedal werewolves, like in The Howling, Dog Soldiers and Bad Moon. I know that Seth Green is short, but that shouldn't have been a problem. They could have hired some 7 feet tall actor to play Oz in wolf form. For example in "Phases" another actor plays the werewolf. The original plans and other facts about Buffy and Supernatural you mentioned were interesting. I liked Veruca, and it would have been great to see her in more episodes. Perhaps "hate" is a too strong word. I just don't like him very much. Michael Myers is one of my favorite villains, and I think that Jason is just a poor rip-off of him. However, I agree with you about the zombie Jason. Freddy vs. Jason and Part VI: Jason Lives are my favorite movies of that franchise.
Hey Raimo47
Mine too and we are only two sleeps away from it in Australia and it is very exciting and we going to be spending Christmas Eve with my Aunt and Uncle and my cousin and her husband will be there for it and then we are having Christmas day here and my Sister, Brother In Law and Nieces and Nephew are coming over for it and we got them a LOT of presents for Christmas this year and we also got our pets a lot of presents too and I think our Malshis (Maltese Terrier/Shih Tzu), Occy and Sally are going to love their presents the most and can't wait to get on the floor with them and unwrap them with them on Christmas. Both of them are spoiled rotten and when they open up their new presents they love to prance around the room showing them off to everybody. Do you have any pets? We are both on holidays now and I don't have to go back to work until the start of February and I like my job and all the people I work with but it is nice to have some time away from it and we don't have to get up early in the mornings and spend the days relaxing. The only problem we have is these fires and we haven't been able to do a lot of the things we like to do outside in summer like swim in our pool much 'cause of the smoke and the new strict water restrictions they introduced recently.
Oh. I am surprised you haven't seen more Horror Christmas movies. 'P2' isn't really a Christmas themed Horror movie but takes place on Christmas like the first two 'Die Hard' movies and is worth checking out if you get a chance one day. Have you seen any of the Full Moon movies like 'Puppet Master', 'Subspecies', 'Demonic Toys', 'Trancers', 'The Gingerdead Man', 'Dollman' etc? I LOVE the 'Puppet Master' and 'Subspecies' franchises and we have a new 'Subspecies' movie coming out soon which will be the first one since 1998 and they are releasing a spinoff from the 'Puppet Master' franchise of one of the puppets called 'Blade The Iron Cross' next year. Horror has always been my favourite movie genre and I have watched hundreds of Horror movies over the years but many of my favourite Horror movies have been parts of franchises like 'A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master' which is my favourite Horror movie of all time. Being a fan of Michael Myers I am curious what you thought of the latest 'Halloween' movie and how they rebooted it from the first movie?
I liked it but wish they had found a way to continue the franchise without ignoring all the other sequels and I would have loved to have seen a movie that had both Jaime Lee Curtis and Danielle Harris in it and perhaps continued from 'Halloween 5' with a grownup Jaime Lloyd ignoring the events of 'Halloween 6' that killed her character off. I also think they should have kept the Brother/ Sister connection between Laurie and Michael. I agree with you about Jason being a ripoff of Michael and the character was very similar to begin with but that is what I liked with him from 'Friday the 13th 6: Jason Lives' and onwards. When they made him into Zombie Jason he become very different than Michael and was scarier in my opinion too. He looked and acted more like a monster and when he punched people their heads literally flew off or his hand when right through their bodies and I liked how they had people running away from him and all of a sudden he would just appear in front of them like he teleported.
Have you had a chance to watch any more episodes of Season 7 of 'Supernatural' yet? They introduce a new place called Purgatory at the end of the season and Purgatory is where all the demons go when they are killed and they were originally going to use it to bring back some of the demons from the previous seasons they killed off but I don't think they could get back some of the actors for Season 8 so they decided against it. Season 8 was still a good season though and I liked it even more than Season 7 and you get to see the introduction of Benny the Good Vampire who comes from Purgatory and Abaddon who I told you about before that becomes a reoccurring villain for the next few seasons. I think you will be surprised by the ending of Season 7 so I won't say too much about that but what they do with Castiel is pretty funny and unexpected. They changed a lot of things over the course of 'Buffy' and 'Supernatural' and 'Angel' too and did you know Spike was supposed to be killed off in Season 2? Because his character was so popular they decided against it and that is surprising considering how popular Spike become. Ohh and when they were making 'Supernatural' Jensen Ackles was originally going to play Sam instead of Dean and I couldn't imagine Jensen playing Sam now.

Hi Deb,
it seems that you are going to have a great Christmas. I'm visiting my parents, and my sister's family is also here. The best thing about Christmas to me is to see the reactions of my 2 and 4 year old nieces to the Santa's visitation etc. Although my vacation isn't as long as yours, I don't have to return to work this year, so there is lots of time to relax. I have heard about the fires over there in the media. Hopefully the situation will get better soon.
I'm allergic to dogs and cats etc. so I don't have any pets.
I haven't seen the movies you mentioned, but I watched the P2 trailer and it looks good. I'm very choosy about movies and usually I just rewatch movies that I like. For example in 2019 I only had 7 first time viewings. This probably explains why I haven't seen as much movies as most people. In my opinion the latest Halloween movie was not very good. It was entertaining and it contained some suspense, but I didn't like the "realism". Michael lost fingers and it was shown that he lost an eye in the first movie. I don't like this interpretation. I don't want to see blind or crippled Michael. Instead I want to see a supernatural killer who can't be killed by bullets or knives etc. That is probably one of the reasons why I prefer zombie Jason to normal Jason. My favorite movies of the Halloween franchise are the original, H2 and H4. Although I like most of the sequels, these three movies would have been a perfect trilogy.
I have seen all the episodes of season 7 of Supernatural except the last one. It's probably better to tell more about my thoughts of this season after I have seen that last episode. I knew about the original plans for Spike, but I didn't know that Jensen was originally going to play Sam. Anyway, the movie and tv-show trivia is always interesting, and I used to read those sections on the IMDb.

Hi Raimo47
Happy New Year!!! Yes. Beccy and I had an awesome Christmas with my family last Wednesday and I hope you had a great Christmas too and it is kinda said it has come and gone and won’t be back until December ‘cause we had been looking forward to that and it never feels like it goes long enough and I love having our Christmas decorations up here and playing Christmas music but Valentine’s Day and our Wedding Anniversary is in February and then in April we have Easter! Easter has always been my second favourite holiday of the year ‘cause it is the one day where I let go and eat lots of yummy and delicious Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies and by Easter I will be eating chocolates again and I am looking forward to seeing all the new chocolates they have out this year and hoping they bring back some old ones I like too like the Darrell Lea Turkish Delight egg. Do you get many Easter eggs where you live?
The fires are really out of control here in Australia at the moment and in the last three days alone we had 176 more houses destroyed and seven people killed with multiple other people missing and they aren’t having it much easier in Victoria and they had over 43 properties destroyed this week and one of them included a Primary School and 8 people are dead. I was hoping the firefighters would have a good start for the beginning of the New Year but it sadly looks like it is only getting worse and winter will be appreciated this year and couldn’t come fast enough. The firefighters need rain and a change in the weather and today has been very hot and hasn’t been helping but we are lucky here ‘cause we don’t have the fires very close to u and we didn’t have the red skies the towns in the South Coast have.
I am sorry to hear you are allergic to cats and dogs and can’t have any pets but it is nice to hear you have Nieces and I love spending time with my Nieces and Nephew and one of the best things about being an Aunt is you don’t have to do all the gross things for them when they are babies like cleaning up their vomit and pooey stinky nappies and I can watch hundreds of Horror movies with blood and guts and none of it affects me anymore 'cause I know it is fake but those are two things I don't have the stomach for and make me want to throw up myself and I love children and babies are cute but they can do some really disgusting things and I am glad we don't have kids 'cause I don't think I could be good as a Mum. My Sister is a great Mum though and I knew she would be and my Nieces and Nephew are wonderful kids and my youngest Niece has Autism and she is very advanced for her age with subjects like English and Maths.
'P2' is good and Rachel Nichols is a very underrated actress and did you see her in 'Continuum' 'cause if not I would recommend that show to you after you have finished watching 'Supernatural' and she was also in the final season of 'Alias' which is one of my all time favourite shows and looking at some of the shows you have told me you like I think you might like 'Alias' and it is not a Horror or Sci Fi show but it is an Action show that has an awesome lead actress in Jennifer Garner who played Sydney Bristow and did all her own stunts and it has some Sci Fi elements in it too. Yeah. We can be picky with what movies we watch too and we watch more old movies and TV Shows than new ones and we mostly only go to the movie theatre to see a few movies a year and most of them are ones that my youngest Niece wants to see too like last year we took her to see 'Frozen 2', 'Detective Pikachu' and 'Ride Like A Girl' along with some other ones and she loved all of them and we always have fun going to the movie theatre with her and this year we will be taking her to see the new 'Minions 2' movie.
I am not a fan of the realism added into the series either and I think with characters like Michael Myers who are close to unstoppable to beat they should keep them supernatural 'cause if they were real they wouldn't be able to survive half the things they do. Having them as monster like creatures who can't feel pain and keep coming makes them scarier and more entertaining to watch in my opinion. I would have liked to have seen the original sequel to 'H20.' From what I read 'H20' was supposed to have a sequel with Laurie's son as the main star but when Josh Harnett refused to come back they rewrote everything and we got 'Halloween Resurrection' which in many ways was the movie that killed the original series. I loved 4 and 5 the most with Jaime and would have liked to have seen Danielle Harris play Jaime as an adult but I hated how they killed Rachel off in 5 especially so close to the start.
Have you watched more of 'Supernatural' yet?

Hi Deb, it seems that you are going to have a great Christmas.

Hi Deb,
happy New Year to you too! It's good to hear that you had an awesome Christmas despite the fires. I read somewhere that in addition to the deaths and destroyed houses almost 500 million animals have died due to the fires. Hopefully the situation gets better soon. Although the winters here in Finland are very dark and cold, I actually like the colder climate, and when I read about earthquakes, hurricanes or forest fires etc. I appreciate the fact that we don't have natural catastrophes around here.
I had a great christmas too. Easter is probably one of the least significant holidays to me, but it is great to have two extra non-working days. I don't know much about easter eggs, since I usually never eat them. The last time I ate one was probably over ten years ago, when I worked as an electrician and our boss bought easter eggs to us.
I actually do all those gross things. I have changed my nieces' diapers and wiped their butts etc. I'd like to be a father, but since I have never had good success with women, it's unlikely that I'll ever have children. Being a single has its good sides too, so I'm quite happy with my life anyway.
That original sequel to H20 sounds interesting. It would have certainly been better than Halloween Resurrection.
The last Supernatural episode I watched was "Blood Brother", the 5th episode of season 8. So far I have liked this season, and I also liked the last episode of season 7. As a whole, season 7 was very good. I liked the introduction of Charlie Bradbury and the Leviathans were good villains. My favorite episodes were probably "Survival of the Fittest", "Death's Door" and "Time After Time". It is interesting to see what will happen to Castiel and I also like the story arc with Kevin. Crowley is probably my second favorite villain after Lucifer.
Thanks for the recommendations. I haven't seen those shows, but I'll read about them later. I'm very busy at the moment, because I have one huge project at work, and its deadline is on January 10. During the Christmas season I also watch sports, especially the IIHF Ice Hockey World Junior Championships and the German-Austrian Ski Jumping Week. During this time I'll have to watch Supernatural at a slower pace.

Just finished watching Season 1 of The Haunting of Hill House on DVD. Note: I composed this review as I watched the series, adding to it with each new episode I saw, so it might feel a bit 'disjointed' and I'll be reviewing the season episode by episode. The opening voice-over didn’t really instill confidence, as it felt like an actor just reading lines/kinda lifeless. We were then introduced to the kid versions of the main characters. When young Steve asked young Nell whether she was okay, all I could think was, “ Really? What just brought you into this room was the sound of your sister sobbing/moaning and you ask if she’s okay?? Is ANYONE who makes that sort of noise ever OKAY?”. Even more stupidly, he then asked young Luke, “Why are you awake?” - gee, I don’t know, could it be because of the racket your sister was making?? It really seemed like these kids were acting either incredibly dense or incredibly weird. At least the figure slowly emerging from the shadows behind young Nell was creepy - that was something. Once we shifted to the ‘present’ time with the characters adults, things thankfully improved. The version I watched of the first episode was the ‘extended cut’, so scenes that had been deleted for time or whatever from the aired versions of certain episodes were restored here. I got to see the full version of the monologue from the woman who’d seen her dead husband on her ceiling (reminded me of Mary’s/Jessica’s deaths from Supernatural). It was an impressively-delivered monologue with no cutaways (which, unfortunately, the aired version apparently had). I’m kind of glad they didn’t show any of what the woman was describing having seen, as the power of imagination is so much more effective than being explicitly shown - which is something the show’s creator/writer/director mentions in the commentary (I made the mistake of listening to it after just watching the first episode and thus spoiled some later plot developments/reveals for myself). It was interesting listening to the commentary, as I learned the creator/writer/director hated 1) cellphones in his projects and tried to avoid them by going so far as purposely setting stories in past time periods where there wouldn’t be any (though this show had a bunch due to the ‘present’ time period) and 2) ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) - which he went to extreme lengths to avoid needing the actors to do (the only ADR’d line was apparently a “Hey.” late into the series). Getting back to the show itself... It took me a little while to work out who everyone was, though I recognised the actor playing adult Steve (hello, Daario 2.0 from Game of Thrones…minus your beard…which makes you look weird to me), the actor playing adult Luke (Oliver Jackson-Cohen seems to be in a LOT of things I watch), Elizabeth Reaser (who I mainly know as Esme Cullen from The Twilight Saga - she played the total opposite of that character here) and I thought I recognised the actress playing adult Theodora...but I was wrong. To me Kate Siedel looks like Jessica Harp from the band The Wreckers. They did a good job of casting all the siblings, but especially the adult versions of the sisters, as they actually all looked like they could be related. The casting of their kid selves was pretty good also. Naturally, I recognised Annabeth Gish (from The X-Files) as Mrs. Dudley and Carla Gugino as the mother character, Olivia. The actress playing adult Nell was effectively creepy from her very first appearance in the show and continued being creepy throughout. One thing I thankfully wasn’t spoiled for was the reveal at the end of the first episode - that she was a ghost that Steve was seeing (I guess the episode title, 'Steven Sees a Ghost', should’ve been a giveaway). I was SO glad I didn’t see that moment coming, as it was quite effective/eerie. I appreciate this show not going the ‘cheap’/’easy’ route and simply relying on gratuitous violence/gore. Instead, it chose to go the much trickier route in achieving actual unsettling atmosphere and genuinely effective ‘scares’. The way the actress slowly opened her mouth just looked very freaky - kudos to her for that. Rewatching the episode whilst listening to the commentary allowed me to see how long Nell was actually alive for before she must’ve offed herself. I’d heard about the dead kittens in episode 2 before ever even getting the show, and typically that would’ve been enough to prevent me from even checking the show out. However, after being reassured of how ‘fake’ the dead kittens looked, I decided I’d just tough it out. Thankfully, it wasn’t too bad (I still hate the fact they even had to have dead kittens at all), but the fact they were basically nothing but small mounds of fur probably made it ‘less bad’ than it would’ve been if they were a bit more developed/looked older and more distinctive. The episode allowed us to get to know Elizabeth Reaser’s character, Shirley. I could understand her frustrations with Luke after all the money she forked out to get him help. It took until episode 3 for me to think to myself, “Kids are stupid.” in regards to the children versions of the characters. Annabeth Gish's character tried warning Theo and Luke not to mess around with the dumbwaiter...and what did they do? Ignore her, of course. Consequently Luke got sent down to the basement and saw something freaky/screamed (loudly), got frightened to death and Theo got into trouble (rightly so) for enabling him. Honestly, adult Theo seemed like one of the more intriguing characters and I was interested in seeing an episode focused on her…but I just wasn’t that into seeing her kid self’s story in the house. Her ‘present’ story was slightly more interesting, as she managed to catch a pedophile foster father. I was expecting something ‘more’ from the backstory of why she wore gloves, though (and found it weird that she took them off at times to shake people’s hands, when other times she wouldn’t take them off). She’d certainly make a good Rogue from X-Men. Annoyingly, the disc I was watching went a bit screwy during the exchange between adult Theo and adult Steve regarding his book, so I missed a piece of dialogue. We got some creepy flashes this episode, along with at least one gory one (Carla Gugino). The show was still doing a good job of not relying on gratuitous gore, though. A brief flash of it here or there isn’t the same as those shows that just go overboard with it because it’s a crutch they rely on to keep things ‘interesting’ (I personally find that lazy). This show manages to maintain a creepy atmosphere without reliance on that. Theo’s reaction to touching her sister’s body and us NOT seeing what she saw was much more effective than if we had, I thought. I might’ve been a tad harsh on episode 3. At least we got to see the siblings interacting, whereas episode 4 was mostly just Luke. And while this has certainly been the best role/performance I’ve seen from Oliver Jackson-Cohen, I’ve also seen plenty of addict storylines in shows before, so there wasn’t a whole lot ‘new’ about it. I recognised the actress playing his fellow addict (I hate the name Joey for a girl, I just have to say). Turns out she was a major backstabby bitch who stole from him after he tried to help her - that, at least, did make me feel sorry for him. I also felt for Nell in episode 5...well...during parts of the episode, anyway. Not so much when she was being bitchy to Theo or Steve (though I could somewhat understand her anger), but more when she was trying to call each one of her siblings and no one would answer. I also liked how it showed us what happened after scenes cut off in previous episodes. We got to see what ‘happened next’ and it filled in the blanks (like her creepy dancing she was seemingly doing 'alone' from the first episode). Of course, the big reveal that she was the 'bent-neck lady' she’d been seeing wasn’t such a shock thanks to my stupidly listening to episode 1’s commentary (totally my fault). Still, I wasn’t expecting to see the big jutting-out bone in her neck after she hanged herself. It sucks that she was tricked into it committing suicide. Episode 6 was likely the most impressive episode yet. No, it wasn’t all a ‘one-shot take’, it was a few one-shot takes...but still, it was quite the feat to pull off (listening to the commentary for episode explained just HOW complicated it was). Thankfully, all the work put into the episode paid off. Yes, it was mainly just characters talking/arguing at a funeral (with some creepy/freaky moments here and there), but it was very compelling. I’m not typically a fan of characters talking/yelling over the top of each other (I just think it’s a waste of dialogue, as I can never tell what anyone’s saying), but here it worked. I could understand everyone's anger/frustration and those pent-up feelings finally being released. Steve was indeed a jerk for using everyone’s painful experience at Hill House to sell books (especially when he didn't believe in any of what he was writing). I could understand the siblings' anger at that. I could also understand Shirley’s anger at finding out all these people took the money from Steve's book sales that she thought they’d refused (like she had), but I think she’d more just assumed no one was going to take the money, rather than anyone actually saying they wouldn’t. Theo got some good/morbidly amusing lines in this episode (which was just the right amount and broke up some of the tension/drama, without ever spoiling/ruining it). I was disappointed to see her and Shirley’s husband seemingly canoodling in secret when Shirley stumbled upon them. I’m surprised she didn’t fully lose it at that moment. Lucky for Luke they seemed to mainly leave him alone in all the arguing. The one I felt MOST sorry for, though, was poor dead Nell. Honestly, this was one of the most compelling hours of TV I’ve watched in quite some time. It really deserves all sorts of awards. After the amazing episode 6, episode 7 felt like quite a step down. I just found it very dull/boring, I wasn't that interested in the father character or Mr. Dudley (I thought his monologue was never going to END) and the only thing of note was when the episode was nearly finished and Theo saw the ghost of her mother creepily crawling along the ground towards her. Episode 8 was somewhat better. I was still bored by everything to do with the father, so the scenes of him and Steve in the car weren’t very interesting to me (though it was good he finally started telling Steve stuff, though Steve still proved what a jerk he was by revealing that he'd gotten a vasectomy and didn't tell his wife because he thought his family had a hereditary mental disease - no wonder she left him and was so pissed when Luke turned up in episode 4 looking for Steve). I was more interested in Shirley and Theo’s half of the episode. I totally understood Shirley not wanting any trick-or-treaters coming by and her telling them to eff off - that’s when she thought it was kids, but it soon became apparent it wasn’t. This show has such an unsettling atmosphere that it can even make banging on doors effectively creepy (especially when the door shut and the banging immediately followed). There was one funny moment involving Shirley getting so mad that she punched her sister in the boob. It was good that Theo explained what had happened between her and Shirley’s husband last episode - this was after the effective jump scare of ghost Nell in the car. When Luke was spreading petrol in the house to set it alight, all I could think was, “Rather than just pouring it one area, Luke, go all over the house! You’ve got plenty of petrol! Spread it out!”. Of course, the house wasn't going to allow him to burn it down anyway. Episode 9 was Carla Gugino’s episode to shine. She really sold Olivia’s mental descent (and then physical descent as she fell from the balcony). I thought the actress playing the flapper-looking ghost, Poppy Hill, was Kate Siegel who plays Theo (just with red hair). Turns out that wasn’t in fact the case (she was effectively creepy, though). And FINALLY we got to the scene featuring the kid versions of Nell and Luke asking their mother whether they’d ‘wake them up’ that I’d first seen in the trailer for the show and which had gotten me intrigued about the series. All of that dialogue from the kids was pretty dang creepy coming from ones so young (I wonder if they gave themselves nightmares?). So, Abigail turned out to not be imaginary...but then died thanks to Olivia poisoning her (and almost poisoning her own two youngest kids). You can’t say the show wasn’t willing to ‘go there’ with the offing of children. As for episode 10/the season final - well, I certainly didn’t know what to make of the beginning when it seemed like the show was going to go very ‘meta’ and had Steve seemingly writing the story about what was happening that we were watching onscreen. I was prepared to be annoyed if this was going to turn out to be one of those 'it was all just a story being written' things. However, things took an unexpected turn when his wife, Leigh, started telling it like it was regarding his crap writing/his treatment of her. Things got particularly freaky when she started swelling/turning ghoulish and I was expecting a gory explosion. Thankfully, we were spared that particular visual. Then came Luke’s nightmare (with his fellow addict who, last we knew of her, she'd stolen his money and run off) and we were treated to that very gross imagery that was described in his episode about the ‘runny egg eyes’. Following that was the reveal of Shirley (who’d been so ticked off at husband and Theo for seemingly ‘cheating’) in fact being the one who had cheated (on her husband with that guy at the bar who she had kept seeing visions of). Then came the eye/face ripping - could’ve done without seeing THAT too. At this point it became apparent each one of them was getting their own special nightmare (it reminded me of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4 final ‘Restless’ - I HATED that episode. This one was more bearable/much creepier). In comparison to the other three, Theo’s nightmare of many ghoulish hands grabbing her wasn’t so bad. There were quite a few revelations/reveals in the episode (the Red Room being a different place for each of the kids and their mum, for example). I can’t say I completely followed everything that was happening, and there was some stuff I wasn't fussed on (such as Steve being the only one of the family to know that their father had offed himself to 'save' them/being the only one filled in on what had really happened in the house. Also, after having different actors/actresses convincingly play the 'younger' and 'older' versions of various characters, it was a bit jarring to see the actor and actress playing Mr. & Mrs. Dudley in old age makeup near the end. It wasn't very convincing. Mr. Dudley looked like a yeti/abominable snowman!), but I didn't mind the 'happy ending' for the family (or what was left of them). After they'd all been through so much crap, they deserved a bit of happiness (and I don't think it's going to exactly be smooth sailing for everyone anyway). I'm glad I got to see the 'extended version' of this episode (as well as others) on DVD. On the whole, I thought the series was rather excellent and I haven’t seen another show take such care in planning out their story in quite some time. The way things filled in the blanks from earlier episodes really made it seem like they had a clear idea of where they were going with the show. So many TV shows feel like they just ‘make it up as they go’ and that’s when things fall apart. This show made some actual effort and didn’t just go for cheap gore (well...for the majority of the season, at least). It really aimed to create an unsettling atmosphere and what a supernatural show about ghosts *should* be like. Kudos to everyone involved for the time/effort put into the show, and especially the performances by both the ‘younger’ and ‘older’ versions of the kids (casting really did a good job). I'm not sure there needs to be a second season, as I felt there were a couple of episodes this season where it started to lose steam and I'm fairly certain a second season couldn't possibly live up to this first season's high quality. However, I’m very glad I watched this show after being apprehensive about it in the beginning. I don't think there's any other show quite like it.

Have you watched more of 'Supernatural' yet?
Hi Deb, happy New Year to you too!
Hey Raimo47 Sorry for the delay again but I have had a busy week and haven't been able to write posts on here and I found out some wonderful news recently that has me over the moon and that is my Sister is pregnant with her fourth child which means I am going to be an Aunt again!! I am so excited and happy for her and I didn't think my Sister would have another child since she has three and is in her 40s now and she wasn't going to tell me about it until she came over for dinner on Sunday night with our family but she couldn't wait to tell me and told me on the phone before. I am very curious if she is going to have a girl or a boy 'cause she already has two girls and a boy and she is coming up with names for them 'cause my Sister is somebody who likes to plan ahead and have everything worked out early and she came up with a list of names my Brother In Law and her liked when she was pregnant with my youngest Niece and ended up choosing Courtney and and speaking about Courtney she is very excited about having a new Brother or Sister. She is going to be spending the next two days with us and we are taking her to ‘The Grounds of Alexandria’ to see all the ‘Frozen 2’ things they have and we have been planning on taking her there for a while but with all the haze and smoke we have had with the bushfires it hasn't been the best time but the haze and smoke is nowhere near as bad as it was before and they are actually having it worse in Melbourne now so now is the best time to go and they are only keeping the 'Frozen 2' things until the 26th of December which is Australia Day here and here is an article about it below if you are a 'Frozen' fan. Courtney is a huge 'Frozen' fan and loved 'Frozen 2' and she is looking forward to seeing the new 'Minions' movie this year. Beccy and I have taken my Nieces to a lot of movies over the years and it is fun seeing movies in the movie theatre with children and seeing how much they enjoy them and I like a lot of animated movies especially Disney movies and the DC animated movies like 'Batman: Under the Red Hood', 'Batman: Bad Blood' and 'Wonder Woman: Bloodlines.' Have you seen any of those?concreteplayground.com/sydney/event/disneys-frozen-ii-at-the-groundsSadly the fires have caused a lot more damage in our state since I last wrote to you and we have had around 1000 homes lost to the fires since New Year's Day and there have been over 2000 homes lost all up since the fires started back in Spring and it has been absolutely horrible how much destruction they have caused and it is going to be a long time before everything is back to the way it was. We have also had over 20 people die and some of them have been firefighters and there were a lot of people missing on the South Coast when the fires were going through the towns there but I think most of them have been found now. There have been reports a lot of rain is to come and we are hoping they get it in the towns that are affected by these fires 'cause they sure need it but the firefighters have got a lot of fires under control lately and there was a huge Mega Blaze that has been downgraded to a regular blaze now and the government is finally doing more to help people. We are also getting a lot of donations from people and celebrities from all around the world and there is a concert coming up to raise money for the people who have been affected by the fires and Alice Cooper is one of the artists who is going to be part of the lineup.
I usually prefer the warmer weather and couldn't wait for spring last year 'cause I had the flu a lot of times in Autumn and Winter and I was looking forward to being able to swim in our pool and just having fun outside in the sun but I wasn't expecting this and I would prefer winter now to put the fires out. I am glad you had a good Christmas and I am surprised you don't eat Easter eggs 'cause I love them and I love the chocolate bunnies too and now I am eating more foods again I can enjoy chocolate and I just had my second Marshmallow Santa and we have Unicorn cake here and I will be having more of that soon too. You should try some more Easter eggs this year 'cause you might like them and there are heaps of different flavours out now and did you ever have any of the flavoured ones like Caramello eggs, Crunchie Eggs, Maltesers Eggs, Milky Bar, Cherry Ripe, Turkish Delight and Humpty Dumpty eggs? See, those are some things I won't be doing with my new Niece or Nephew when my Sister has them 'cause I just don't have the stomach for it but I do love babies. We have just started watching the final season of 'Supernatural' here and the first two episodes aired on Friday and they are going to show double episodes until we have caught up with America and I thought you would have been up to Season 8 by now and that is a good season and I liked that more than Season 7 and what do you think of Benny (the Good Vampire)? I like it when they add good versions of classic monsters like that who use their powers to help people instead of killing people and we have had a few movies and TV Shows that have done that with vampires but with 'Supernatural' most monsters in the show have been evil and a number of the ones that were believed to be good were pretending like Ruby. The Leviathans were good villains and they weren't easy for the Winchesters to defeat but I was kinda disappointed how they mostly just disappeared from the show after Season 7 and without spoiling anything too big for you the leviathans rarely appeared again and I am surprised the remaining ones didn't have another leader take over or more of them didn't go their own way instead of following Dick's orders. I liked how they brought Bobby back as a ghost and he helped them but I am surprised there wasn't a longer showdown with them at the end but their showdowns at the end are often short as we have talked about before and it is not like 'Buffy' and 'Angel' where they had long big fighting scenes with the villains.

Hi Deb,
congratulations! I still remember clearly how good it feels to hear such news. And no need to apologize, I have been very busy as well and I know that it's impossible to write long messages here when there's lots of work (or other more important things) to do.
I haven't seen Frozen, but the setting at The Grounds of Alexandria looks very nice. Usually my nieces want to watch some children's tv-shows on netflix, so I haven't watched movies with them. It is indeed fun to watch something with children, and it is amusing when my nieces always watch my face and ask "did you see that" when something funny happens. I haven't seen those animated movies, but I have watched animated X-men tv-show many years ago.
I read about the mega blaze and the coming rains. Hopefully the rains will come and help to mitigate the situation. I'm currently trying to avoid sugar, so it's probably best not to try new easter eggs.
The last episode of Supernatural I watched was the 16th episode of season 8, "Remember the Titans". It was a great episode and in my opinion Zeus was so good villain that I would have liked to see him in more episodes. I like Benny, and because vampires are my favorite monsters, it was good that they added a vampire character to the cast. Season 8 is probably better than S6 and S7 and the story arc is very good. I have noticed it too that the showdowns on Supernatural are shorter than on Buffy or Angel, but I have no problems with it because those scenes have been very good so far. The Leviathans were good villains, but I think it's better if they focus more on the demons.

Most recently finished the series Informer on DVD. **spoilers below** I’d watched the trailer and it looked interesting. There were also some actresses in it who I was familiar with and liked (such as Bel Powley, Jessica Raine and Nell Hudson). I wasn’t really sure what to make of it in the first couple of episodes and was a tad confused. I was also surprised that the show seemed to be as much about the character of Gabe Waters (Paddy Considine, who looks like a cross between Aidan Gillen/Littlefinger from Game of Thrones and JR Bourne/Allison’s father from Teen Wolf) as it was about the character of Raza Shar (Nabhaan Rizwan) - who I thought was the lead character/character the show was going to be focused on and told from the perspective of. It seemed that was the case at the start, but as the series progressed, it seemed to focus more on Gabe (whose character I wasn’t particularly fond of). Bel Powley, sadly, felt rather wasted in her role as Holly Morten. She’s an actress who’s caught my attention in other things and I was happy to see she’d scored a TV series, but towards the end it became clear her character wasn’t going to survive and I kind of lost interest. What I especially hated was that her character was reduced to just being 'in the wrong place at the wrong time’ and wound up a victim of the shooter whose identity had remained a mystery until the final episode. Rather disappointingly, it ended up being Raza’s brother, Nasir (who’d greatly annoyed me from the get-go, and consequently I didn’t like even before he randomly shot a bunch of innocent people). The final episode really seemed to drop the ball, as it went from this kid accidentally shooting his ‘friend’, Akash (who really wasn’t much of a friend, filling Nasir's head with crap including convincing him the woman who acted as his and Raza's mother was a 'whore' because she lived with three unmarried men - them and their father. The stupid kid even spouts this same crap to his brother who rightly tells him off. I hated seeing that Akash was still out and about at the end after all that he’d caused), to suddenly taking all his anger out on poor Holly who he happened by at a café, then just deciding on a whim he’d shoot a bunch of other people too. It seemed to gloss over the all-important ‘why’ and then ended with Gabe teaching Raza how to keep calm/relaxed and ‘feel safe’ on a train - very disappointing. Jessica Raine, who I’ve liked in most of the things I’ve seen her in, felt like she was given a thankless role here as Gabe’s wife, Emily. The set-up for the shooting, with her character meeting Holly, felt rather awkward/forced. I didn’t like the way her character was treated. I was also really disappointed that the character of Imran Aziz (Arsher Ali), who seemed the MOST competent informer out of everyone (and the most likeable), was offed towards the end. The fact that he made a silly mistake which cost his life rang false to me. He’d been so good every other time that this slip-up felt out-of-character. Another character who I quite enjoyed was Raza’s ‘mother’, Sadia Shar (Sunetra Sarker). She seemed like a decent person to the boys (whose real mother had died, and she was taking care of them along with their father who has a drinking problem). She was snarky at times, but remained likeable (when she said to Nasir, “You’re embarrassed of me? I’m cooler than you, sunshine!”, my response was “Hell yeah you are!”). Of course, by the end of the final episode we were supposed to see her in a negative light when she blurted out how she wasn’t even Nasir’s mother to Raza. Honestly, though, I could understand her frustration and wanting to distance herself from an unhinged kid who shot a bunch of innocent people. It was weird seeing Nell Hudson (Laoghaire from Outlander and Skerrett from Victoria) in a modern setting/modern clothes. Her character here, Charlotte Humphreys, was another who, by the end, we were obviously meant to think of as not a good person...but I didn’t mind her (I also couldn't recall how she'd 'wronged' Raza, so that probably helped). I certainly preferred her to some of the other supporting characters in the show. The character of Dadir Hassan was interesting to me. A lot of the time he did/said stuff that made me kind of not like him, but then came the episode where Raza was made to believe he had to shoot Dadir or they’d both be shot and I actually felt some sympathy for him (his reaction to finding out he was going to become an uncle also helped). I can’t say I necessarily liked Dadir...but I found the actor who portrayed him (Roger Jean Nsengiyumva) to be quite interesting to watch. I’m also happy the show introduced me to Olivia Popica, who played the role of Roxy Novac. I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for her in other things. I should probably mention the actor who played Raza. I thought he was quite good in the role. He convincingly portrayed Raza's journey as a character from not having a clue of what to do as an informer to learning how to think on his feet and coping in stressful situations. There were a few things his character did/said that I wasn’t overly fond of, but I still liked him more than Gabe. On the whole, this was a show that I wasn’t sure about in the beginning, though I got more into it around the middle (it had some really good tense moments here and there), but then was disappointed by the fact that it didn’t ‘stick the landing’ at the end. I’m not sure how interested I’d be in watching a second season if it ever did get one.

Hi again Raimo47
How have you been? Thanks and it was wonderful news and not the type of news I was expecting but I am very happy for her and I am looking forward to being an Aunt again and seeing my new Niece or Nephew when she gives birth and my Sister has got it down to four names now (two for each gender) and is choosing things to buy for it and she is ready to have the baby now but it is still going to be some time before she has it and we are going to the new Sydney Zoo this weekend and we were going to go there before but we didn't end up going 'cause of all the haze and smoke in the air from the bushfires but that has thankfully cleared up a lot around here now and I took our Malshis for a walk today and Beccy and I have been swimming in our pool again. We still have fires burning across our state and the latest reports said there are 100 of them but the rain helped put a lot of them out and saw some of the megablazes downgraded to regular blazes and it is just a shame it didn't stay longer and put all of the bushfires out 'cause the hot weather has seen some of them playing up again.
We got a lot of storms here with the rain and had blackouts and hail and the storms caused quite a bit of damage in some places too and saw the roofs of houses torn off, trees and powerlines getting knocked over, car accidents and floods and they had to close down the Australian Reptile Park, Dream World, Movie World and Wet N’ Wild for a few days over safety concerns and fear some of the crocodiles and alligators might escape but it kinda feels like it came and went really quickly and we are back to having hot days again and we are coming up to the final month of summer and if the weather is anything like it was last autumn the fires won't last much longer 'cause they won't survive the cold and last year we had Cold Fronts, Polar Breezes and Polar Blasts and it was freezing cold in autumn and winter. Beccy is sadly finished her Christmas holidays now and returned to work yesterday and I am going back to work on Monday but we enjoyed the holidays and we didn't end up going anywhere for them like the beach but we had a good time together and with my family and friends.
I am looking forward to going back to work and seeing my boss and all the people I work with and it will be nice to catch up with everybody especially the ones I haven't talked to much the last few weeks and hear about their holidays. It is nice to hear you watch shows with your Nieces and we had the 'Paw Patrol', 'Loony Tunes' and 'Scooby Doo' channels going over the holidays and they now have a Pop Up James Bond channel and are you a fan of the Bond movies? I watched the Roger Moore movies with my Grandfather when I was young and they were his favourites and have become my favourites but I like some of the Pierce Bronson ones too like 'Goldeneye', 'Tomorrow Never Dies' and 'The World Is Not Enough' and the two Timothy Dalton movies. I even liked 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' but I didn't like how they just killed Tracy off and she was never really mentioned again and I heard she was supposed to be in 'Diamonds Are Forever' and they had flashbacks of her and James in the movie that were filmed and he was going to be a depressed alcoholic at the beginning of it who had quit his job but when Sean Connery returned the plans were scrapped.
I noticed you mentioned you have finished watching Season 8 of 'Supernatural' which would bring you to Season 9 with Ezekiel and Metatron and what do you think of Metatron so far? I thought he was an entertaining villain and pretty funny at times. I remember the actor was in 'Moonlighting' which was one of the TV Shows I grew up watching with my Aunt in the 80s that had Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd in it too and another actor you might recognise who was in 'Stargate SG1' and 'Sanctuary' was Amanda Tapping who plays Naomi in 'Supernatural.' Benny was a good addition and he made you really think about vampires in the show 'cause it showed unlike in 'Buffy' and 'Angel' where unless they had a soul they were automatically evil vampires could be good and there was another good vampire who I think I mentioned before that was coincidentally played by Amber Benson who was Tara in 'Buffy.' I liked Season 9 and I can't remember if it was in that or Season 10 where they start injecting Crowley human blood but I remember the whole Meatron/ Ezekiel storyline was pretty good and Ezekiel without spoiling anything is not who he says he is and you will find out more about that as the show goes on.
The whole Crowley getting injected with human blood thing was interesting 'cause I remember the original plan was to make him become a good demon and he would have been like Angel or Spike with a soul and want to make up for all the bad things he done but they didn't go as far with it. The blood does change him though and it is from then on he really becomes more of an ally to Sam and Dean and helps them regularly and I could be wrong but I think what it did was give him back his emotions 'cause he becomes somewhat of an emotional mess and the other demons don't like him anymore 'cause of it and think he has gone soft.

Most recently finished Season 2 (which also, sadly, turned out to be the final season) of Krypton on Blu-ray. When it was first announced they were making a show about Superman’s grandfather, I was skeptical, but I heard from someone I trusted that it was actually half-decent. It took me a while, but I eventually got into/enjoyed Season 1 and was surprised to find myself looking forward to a Season 2. Having said that, there were things I wasn’t so fussed on in the first season and a few of those carried over into the second season. To begin with, I just find everything Zod-related rather dull/boring (which is a problem, since they take up a large percentage of the storyline). I’ve seen comments elsewhere that the Zods were ‘the most interesting part’ and the main/only reason some people watched the show. Well...I felt the complete opposite. I’m afraid I just never bought Georgina Campbell’s Lyta-Zod as this supposedly ‘bad-arse’ leader of the Sagitari (speaking of those guys, their poor aim and regularly ending up as cannon fodder pretty much made them this universe’s version of Stormtroopers. They also looked ridiculous when their masks opened up to show their faces and they walked around like that. They looked like they had handlebars on the sides of their heads), nor did I buy her attempts at coming across as threatening/intimidating. The Lyta/Seg-El romance also bored me. It was kinda hard to like Lyta’s character for the majority/first half of the season, considering all the bad stuff she was doing, but then she was seemingly offed in front of everyone - though it was obvious that it wasn’t going to last/there’d be some was she would be brought back…and, sure enough, it was revealed that the Lyta who had died was a ‘reconditioned’ clone and the real Lyta was lying in a bed with what looked like a Dalek (when they’re out of their casing) that’d been covered in oil and was stuck on her chest/up her nose (nasty). When the real Lyta finally awoke and we learned that all the bad stuff we’d thought she’d done this season *wasn’t* actually her, then it became a bit easier to like her (though kind of felt like a cop-out at the same time). I also thought she was more interesting too from this point on. The most I liked her, though, was in the fantasy she’d been living before waking up (she was also very nice-looking when they let her have her hair down), The most believable ‘bad-arse’ moment from her was when she was tag-teaming with Seg-El to beat up Dru-Zod (hated that first name they gave him, btw. I shouldn’t be thinking of Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer whenever they said it). The two of them taking him on together was far more believable than either of them standing a chance against him by themselves. Speaking of Zod (who I won’t be calling him by his first name), I’ve liked Colin Salmon in other things. I felt he was under-used in Arrow, but his Zod here got a bit tiresome after a while. The big speeches that he’d give made him come across more like General Hux from the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, with the shoutiness and ‘scenery-chewing’, than someone to be feared. I got tired of his “I’m doing all this to save Krypton!” (paraphrasing) shtick. Really? Offing Kryptonians is going to save them?? He just became another tyrant who justified all his heinous actions whilst living in a delusion. It was fitting that he finished the season stuck in an actual delusion/fantasy under the influence of the Black Mercy he’d stuck his mother in (though I wished they’d just offed him - no matter how much that was unlikely to happen, considering he has to remain alive to eventually be enemies with Superman). About the only Zod family member I bought in any of the fight scenes was Lyta’s mother, Jayna. At least she looked like she could believably beat guys up. Her storyline this season bored me to tears, though. I barely remembered the character of Dev-Em who she was paired with and I found the actor who played him to be pretty dull/lifeless with his performance. Their scenes together were the perfect time for a bathroom break. It might seem like I’m ‘picking on the Zods’, but they weren’t the only boring characters/storyline this season. I also couldn’t have cared less about Seg’s grandfather, Val-El, or the one-eyed resistance woman, Jax-Ur. I couldn’t even remember how Val came into was alive again or how Jax lost an eye. About the only thing of note the latter did was offing Lyta, whilst the only time I somewhat liked the former was when he was a hologram or whatever in the Fortress of Solitude interacting with Seg and Nyssa-Vex. Val really came across as quite naïve a lot of the time with how he’d not be expecting betrayals and whatnot, whereas Jax was just too gung-ho for my liking. Adam Strange was a character who could be annoying at times (in the first episode of this season, it felt like he was reduced to being the ‘pratfall’ guy). Things thankfully improved once he started interacting with Seg again. Some of their banter worked, others times...not so much. Those two came off kinda like doofuses, and with the introduction of Lobo, it was like he was the school bully who constantly harassed/picked on them/beat them up...but who secretly craved company and, despite the fact that he seemingly desired to kill them, actually kind of ‘needed’ them (not a perfect analogy, but there you go). Speaking of Lobo, the actor playing him did a perfect job of instantly establishing what his character was like/all about and proved quite entertaining. It appeared as though he became the character the writers fell in love with this season, as he got a lot of the best moments/lines (it felt like they could really let loose with the crudeness/suggestiveness when writing for him. Not that it was just him that swore, of course. Kryptonians swearing was something I never got used to. Just as well Kal-El wasn’t brought up on Krypton; otherwise Superman may have wound up a ‘potty mouth’). They seemed to be pushing the boundaries of what they could get away with in regards to the stuff Lobo said/did. Not only that, there was also the fact that he could regenerate from injuries, so we were treated to him getting a giant hole shot through the middle of him, his losing an arm and, most shocking of all, him blasting his own head off (only to start regenerating from his cut-off arm). It certainly allowed for some gross, but imaginative/memorable, moments. I hear he might’ve gotten a spin-off…but I’m not sure how that would’ve gone. To me, Lobo felt like the sort of character who was good in small does, but ran the risk of being ‘too much of a good thing’. Another character who allowed for some gratuitous violence this season was Doomsday. Who would’ve thought Krypton would be the one to give us a truly decent version of this character? The Smallville version was only half-decent in his first few appearances, but became a joke in his last episode. The DCEU version was a joke straight away (looking more like a cave troll from LOTR). This version, however, not only gave us a backstory of how Doomsday came into being (I was actually interested in that flashback and the characters in it. I wish we could’ve spent more time with them instead of certain other boring storylines), but really demonstrated why the character was to be feared. When he was let loose, we were treated to Doomsday in all his violent glory. It’s the first time I can recall that we’ve seen the true horror of what he can do (I could’ve done without seeing him stomp a dude’s head, though). And in a season already packed with villains, there was also the seemingly unkillable Brainiac (he was one dude who I WAS happy to see the crushed skull of - it was a surprise when they showed what Seg had done to him, but since all that came out was black goo, it wasn’t nearly as horrible to look at as the guy Doomsday stomped on the head of). I knew Blake Ritson who played Brainiac from Da Vinci’s Demons mainly (though had seen him in one or two other things). He had a very particular way of speaking/annunciating in that show (which could bug me at times) and it carried over here…but with the added annoyance of his voice being altered. Consequently, it became rather difficult to understand him half the time. I won’t deny that he was good in the role, but it basically reminded me of Scorpius in John Crichton’s brain in the TV series Farcasape. None of the stuff with Brainiac taking over others was really ever the ‘surprise’ the show seemed to think it was. Cameron Cuffe did a decent job playing Blake Ritson’s Brainiac the times he was in control of Seg-El. As for Seg himself...he felt most ‘alive’ when teamed up with Adam and Lobo or with Nyssa. He did make some dopey moves at times (he had Gneeral Zod at his mercy at one point, but was easily distracted and lost the upper hand. And I’m probably forgetting other instances), but I’ll admit he sold his reaction to Lyta’s death (he certainly seemed more devastated than either Lyta’s mother or Lyta’s son did - and shouldn’t Zod have been worried about blinking out of existence after his mum died? Well, okay, since he knew she was a clone, than probably not...but why didn’t anyone else wonder about this? To them it appeared as if his mother died before she had a chance to ‘create’ him, so that should’ve set off alarm bells. Hell, I’m wondering when exactly everyone learned Lyta, who looked young enough to be his daughter, was actually his mother and that he was from the future. I would’ve thought they’d have a big reaction to that/many questions). Cuffe also made the death of Kem feel like it had some actual impact on Seg. Kem’s character didn’t feel like he had a whole lot to do this season, so I imagine either the actor wanted out (before he knew the show was going to be cancelled anyway, of course) or the writers just gave up trying to figure out how to utilize him best. Oh well, at least he got to go out in a gory fashion (Doomsday’s fist through his abdomen and his head ripped off. Though I thought he wasted too much time giving Doomsday the finger and wasn’t going to trigger the detonator after he lost his head). Another character who the writers seemed to not know what to do with was Nyssa’s father, Daron-Vex. After all his power/status was taken away last season, he was reduced to cleaning off what looked like barnacles this season. It was rather a waste of Elliot Cowan (who was much better served n Da Vinci’s Demons - did he do something to piss off David Goyer between that show and this one?). It’s a shame Nyssa never really got any answers from him about the whole reveal of her being a clone the end of last season (Nyssa should’ve been like Angel in the BtVS series final, only replacing ‘having a soul’ with ‘being a clone’, in regards to the Lyta clone reveal: “You know, I started it, the whole "being a clone" before it was all the cool new thing.”). And, saving the best for last, this brings me to my favourite character in the show: Nyssa-Vex as played by Wallis Day. She was the character who intrigued me the most in Season 1, as she felt very mysterious and we weren’t sure whose side she was on. The aforementioned clone reveal last season showed a lot of promise, but the show writers kind of dropped the ball on that one this season. They really should’ve explored that more. Unlike Seg/Lyta, I wasn’t as bored with Seg/Nyssa. I think because the show wasn’t *forcing* me to see them as a couple like “They’re meant to be! You *want* them together! WANT IT!!!”, but rather just letting their interaction flow naturally. Apparently I’m not the only one who thought so. I enjoyed them together in the Fortress, where Nyssa had to perform surgery on Seg (it was also funny seeing her interact with Fortress Val-El and her reaction to what he was telling her she had to do/her exasperation at him not getting her sarcasm). It was a nice moment between the two when they decided to change their child’s name, shedding the Cor-Vex moniker and choosing what we all saw coming: Jor-El. It’s a bit sad that the Vex family name would end with Nyssa, as the show only focusing on the El and Zod families got a bit boring after a while. It would’ve been nice to have another family to mix things up a bit. I have to scoff at those claiming she was on the verge of becoming a ‘Mary Sue’ (HATE that term!), just because she was able to fight in the second-to-last episode of the season. Of course her father would’ve ensured his daughter could handle herself (or she insisted on fight training herself). She wasn’t just some ‘sheltered princess’. And, let’s not forget, she *did* make mistakes on occasion, so that alone keeps her from being ‘perfect’. Nevertheless, Nyssa was just generally awesome. I, for one, really appreciated seeing her in action. I had to laugh at one comment I saw regarding that^ scene: “I turned my head for one second and Nyssa kills two guys...Hot” (I’d have to agree with that assessment). Nyssa was just generally awesome. I liked when Seg was listing off all the things she’d done which she herself couldn’t believe she’d managed to do – such as jumping out a window with their child and landing in a skimmer below. And it’s eyebrow-raising that some people got so bent out of shape over her kick-arse scene in episode 9. Why SHOULDN’T she get to kick some butt? I’m sure she was just itching to release all her pent-up rage and frustrations (not to mention her losing her child to Brainiac and Seg getting back together with Lyta after he and Nyssa had just had their intimate scenes in the Fortress). The end of the final episode was very frustrating due to all the set-up for a next season that was never going to come. Lobo returned (despite what he said regarding the ‘how’ not being as important as the ‘why’…I begged to differ. I would’ve REALLY liked to know how he escaped the place he was stuck in. Even more importantly, he was stuck with Brainiac last we saw…yet somehow he’s still chasing him?). Brainiac was off to Earth with Jor-El...not sure what was going to happen with that. MOST frustrating of all, however, was the fact that Nyssa got stuck on a planet with a burned guy, the omega symbol drawn in blood and parademons flying in the sky. While I’m sure the Seg/Lyta shippers were pleased with Nyssa’s predicament, I was (as I’m sure other Nyssa fans were) royally pissed off that that’s where we leave her character. Here’s some info on what the third season would’ve been about: www.denofgeek.com/us/tv/dc-entertainment/282914/krypton-season-3-newsIn conclusion, the show certainly had some flaws, but it was better than I’d expected after I first heard it was being made and is yet another show with lots of potential that was cut short/not given a fair chance. Most importantly...it introduced me to Wallis Day, who I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for in other projects.
