mattgarthGrowing up in a one small factory town, movies and movie stars was a way to escape boring real life, long before Internet, plus having a mother that knew a lot about the old stars both local and foreign, and she had collection after collections of scrap books. She refered to Edward G as "angry little fat guy" until we watched Sammy Going South 1963, and suddenly she said "he looks like a cozy uncle everyone would like", and watching Song of Norway 1969 she refered to him as "ahh he looks old dear old Edward". My eventual knowledge about old movies was spurred by my mothers old scrap books

Sure, I love these category games. There is a bit of everything for everyone. Also, by using Edward G. Robinson you have proven that an performer doesn't have to be Oscared to be interesting. I have to say I didn't see any Georges in the game, but then you can never trust Matt to give us what he hinted at. I thought of many Georges: actors (George Clooney--George Arliss--George C. Scott--George Sanders), Oscared dancers (George Chakiris), composers (George M. Cohan--George Gershwin) directors (George Stevens--George Lucas), wrestlers (Georgoes Georges), and superheros, George Reeves), etc. But, I never thought any might make a complete game. Then there are movie titles with a George in the title: The Killing of Sister George-- The Madness of King George-- George of the Jungle) Well, maybe the G in Edward G. Robinson stands for George? It's hard to say since that was the stage name of Emmanuel Goldenberg...

I would love to see this group of programs on 'THE $64,000 CHALLENGE.' I can't think of two better celebrity opponents on this particular subject. Both were avid art collectors.
Does anyone here remember when Eddie Hodges and Patty Duke did this challenge on popular music?

Julie, What is even worse than too being lazy to look it up is that I just realized that I was was the OP on the thread you are referring to. I had forgotten I had even posted this thread: IMDB2.freeforums.net/thread/7436/edward-robinson-movie-choicesI must have been trying to find something else when the game asked about national origins. Of course he was Norwegian in Our Vines Have Tender Grapes. [What about The Sea Wolf (1941) and Song of Norway (1970)]? Of course he was German in Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet. By the way, I just saw this again this WEEK.
