Somehow this would not work for me ... IF we have Magnum as we know him.. rather quirky, easy going, even giggly on occasion. Ford just isn't light spirited enough for the established Thomas Magnum. Maybe it's as simple as the sturdiness / seriousness of his voice ? He never seems amused by what is happening and takes himself quite seriously. No Selleck version ? There would then have been an entirely different Magnum and I don't think he would have been near as much fun. He would probably just come across as the usual run of the mill private eye type who has been around forever. Alternate Universe time again

The problem is that Jones and Magnum are such iconic characters established by their respective actors that it's impossible to switch those actors and see it still working.
