I think this subgenre is deader than dead. What more can be done with it? We've had two-headed sharks, ghost sharks, shark tornadoes, we're about to get a gigantic prehistoric shark.
I always say zombie movies are done to death but I can't imagine how they could, for instance, reboot Jaws and make it interesting.

Sharks on trains sharks on planes sharks in skyscrapers fighting terrorists (you think it cant be done? A hi rise with shark tanks all throughout the building--Shark McClane can get anywhere the terrorists can) sharks on a boat (yeah that's so retro) sharks in space sharks in Oz
No, I would say the genre isn't dead yet.

Steve Alten even posted on there, giving updates when he had any.

The Shallows (2016) was entertaining. I thought 47 Meters Down was a better version of the same concept.

...you want some shark fear??? See the film "USS Indianapolis" which is based on a true account of the US cruiser that delivered the A bombs to the Philipine Islands prior to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The film centers on the fate of over 900 sailors who were forfeit as shark bait in this true disastrous debacle...

Time to recast sharks as romantic heroes.

Time to recast sharks as romantic heroes. I know, right. Sharks are like that one uncle who lives alone, and single-handedly eats all the Thanksgiving leftovers in like, one day. Someone has to do it! I know I don't want to eat a bloated, dead whale at every meal for two months!

How about a sequel to Tintorera? Burt Reynolds is still kicking so why not a Shark 2? I think the Last Shark is a pretty entertaining Jaws rip off.
