Any early predictions/picks?
And I think the Razzie nominations are either announced the day before or the day after the Oscar nominations.

I'm so out of the loop with new movies nowadays. They only enter my consciousness if someone mentions them here or I see them available at Netflix. Had never heard of Moonlight or La La Land last year.

Michael Bay will not be nominated for Best Director. Unless he made an action movie that took place during the Oscar ceremony that featured Daniel Day Lewis as the villain.

I'd go with most of you predictions except perhaps
Supporting actor: Sam Rockwell & Woody Harrelson - I think either or both are more than possible nominees
Best Actress - Gal Gadot. For Wonder Woman? I think/hope not

As a horror fan, it'll be a pretty awesome day if Get Out gets nominated for Best Picture and Actor.

I'd be surprised if Daniel Kaluuya is nominated, but pleased if he was. Nice to see him make the leap from UK TV to Oscar possibilty

Hell, you ain't missing nothing especially when it comes to movies nominated for Best Picture as they tend to be largely forgettable in general. occasionally some quality movies nominated for Best Picture turn up but generally few of them are anything special.
just for myself in the current decade of the movies nominated for best picture (i.e. 2010-2016)... only 5 movies are of any real worth for me (i.e. amongst My Favorite Movies). one for 2010, one for 2011, one for 2012, two for 2013. I kind of assume 2017 will fall flat here to.

I just wrote down all my predictions for tomorrow and these are the movies with multiple nominees in my predictions:
The Shape of Water - 14 Dunkirk - 9 Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - 8 Blade Runner 2049 - 6 (I added it to Best Picture because I want it to get the nom, but 5 is noms is probably more reasonable) Darkest Hour - 5 I, Tonya - 5 Lady Bird - 5 Call Me By Your Name - 4 Get Out - 4 Phantom Thread - 4 Star Wars: The Last Jedi - 3 Coco - 2 The Florida Project - 2
I don't know if The Shape of Water will actually get 14 nominations (maybe 11 - 13 is more likely), but that's the amount I get when I go over my predictions. 14 nominations would probably be the surprise of the day. And if The Shape of Water gets 14 nominations it'll immediately be the frontrunner for Best Picture.

Oscars have been bullsit for the past few years. A lot of the movies that will probably win don't deserve them. Oscar movies haven't been worth watching. The only movies that are Oscar worthy are the ones like Greatest Showman, but it won't win anything.

A few predictions Best ActressAlmost 100% sure:Frances McDormand Margot Robbie Saoirse Ronan Sally Hawkins Other possibilities:Gal Gadot Jessica Chastain Meryl Streep Gal Gadot won't be nominated, but Wonder Woman (which was nominated by the PGA for Best Theatrical Motion Picture) has a strong shot at 1 of the 10 Best Picture slots and Patty Jenkins (who was a finalist for TIME Magazine's Person of the Year) has a shot at a Best Director nomination (although that's more of a longshot since there are only 5 slots for Best Director as opposed to 10 slots for Best Picture).

And if The Shape of Water gets 14 nominations it'll immediately be the frontrunner for Best Picture. Maybe - although with the new preferential balloting system, Best Picture no longer seems to automatically go to the contender with the most nominations. Three Billboards or Lady Bird would still be in it, I think. Del Toro does seem very likely to join his countrymen Cuaron and Inarritu with a Best Director Oscar. I have only had the chance to see a handful of the leading contenders so far. I do hope that Darkest Hour is not showered with too many nods, as it's a pretty dreadful film.
