It was mostly a British thing, although the Americans did make at least one, but in the 1950's & 60's, there was a string of comedy films that involved vintage vehicles as part of their plots. I'm talking about films like Genevieve (1953), The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953),
And The Iron Maiden (1962) [Released in the US as Swinging Maiden]

Other films from this era of this type include: The Fast Lady (1962) [Features a 1927 Bentley 4.5 Litre named "The Fast Lady"] The Great Race (1965) [Edwardian-era automobiles engage in an international New York to Paris rally] Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (1965) [Early aeroplanes from the world super powers embark on an endurance run from London to Paris in hopes of being first] And Monte Carlo or Bust (1969) [Released in the US as Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies, Sequel to Magnificent Men set a decade later dealing with the Monte Carlo rally)One thing I do ask when people write down suggestions is... please don't put down Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, while I love that film, I've always considered it more of a musical than a comedy.

From what I know/heard, isn't The Yellow Rolls-Royce more of a drama than a comedy? (Is it an early dramedy?)
Let me check out the trailer and see what I think.
It's a straight out period drama.

Almost what you're looking for, Jacques Tati's Trafic (1971). From imdb: "Mr. Hulot drives a recreational vehicle from Paris to Amsterdam in his usual comical, disastrous style." ![]()

Don't forget the 1960s TV sitcom My Mother the Car, about a man whose mother is reincarnated as a 1928 Porter automobile.
I fail to see how the premise is any more absurd than today's superhero films and soft-core fantasy TV shows.
