movieweb.com/new-robocop-movie-sequel-1987-original/
We've already had two sequels to the 1987 film though. Plus, it would be weird to make a direct sequel since we can be under the assumption that Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Paul Verhoeven, etc. won't be around for this film. I'm guessing this will be to Robocop what the next Terminator film will be for Terminator 2 as far as sequels go.
"Edward Neumeier, who wrote the 1987 classic, revealed in an interview at the Barbados Independent Film Festival that he is, "working on a new one at MGM right now' and that maybe they'll 'get another one out of it." When pressed for more details, the writer wouldn't give any specifics, but it's clear that this won't be another reboot, and that it will continue the continuity from the original movies. Here's what he had to say about this new Robocop movie.
"Well, here's what I'll say. We're not supposed to say too much. There's been a bunch of other RoboCop movies and there was recently a remake and I would say this would be kind of going back to the old RoboCop we all love and starting there and going forward. So it's a continuation really of the first movie. In my mind. So it's a little bit more of the old school thing.""

I wonder if they will bring Peter Weller back, I think that they could make him look (with a little bit of CGI) like RoboCop still.
I know that Nancy Allen won't be back (they killed her character off in the 3rd Movie).

If they brought back Paul Verhoeven as director, I might be interested.

Robocop 1987 is great, but the magic of 80s movies can not be recaptured by creatively bankrupt modern Hollywood. Only Fury Road successfully pulled it off.
