Next time I go to the store I am going to get everything I need for this. A Reuben Sandwich. Corn Beef, Marble Rye bread, Swiss cheese and Sauerkraut. I like mine loaded with this.

Thanks. That is almost exactly how we make them. 1 lb. thinly sliced deli corned beef 2 Tbsp. butter, softened 8 slices marbled rye or pumpernickel bread 8 slices Swiss cheese 1-1/2 c. sauerkraut, well drained 1/4 c. Thousand Island dressing What to do: 1. Lightly spread butter on one side of each bread slice. 2. Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Place 2 bread slices, butter side down, in skillet. Top each bread slice with 2 slices cheese, 1/4 of sauerkraut and 4 oz. corned beef. Spread 1 Tbsp. dressing on unbuttered side of 2 bread slices; top sandwich with bread slice butter side up. 3. Cook sandwiches 4-6 min. or until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, turning once.

We had it last night and it was so good I just had another one today for lunch. We saw a loaf of this and decided to have it instead of the swirl rye. We had them slice it for us.

Deembastille, I'll be in NYC from Feb 1 - 5. Most of the time will be devoted to a group get-together, but I've staked-out one lunch for a great NY deli sandwich. I was thinking pastrami or corned beef, at either Katz's, or the 2nd Avenue Deli. I've never been to either one ... I used to go to Carnegie Deli, when I was there, but it's gone. Do you think that a Reuben at Katz's would be a better suggestion than the pastrami, or the plain corned beef? (What's your "take" on 2nd Avenue Deli, if you've been there?)

I haven't been to the 2nd avenue deli but since i venture into manhattan twice a day on average, i can take a trek over to it.
i am usually not a fan of overly large sandwiches eaten normally -- i usually dissect it. i dislike corned beef that is on a sandwich if it is chunks... if it is sliced thinly then sandwiches are cool. and eating corned beef alone, chunks are fine.
and pastrami i was never a fan of.

I agree about the overly large sandwiches. I was hoping for a "half," of whatever I order, since we'll be eating in groups the rest of the time. And, I don't want to have leftovers in a hotel. The hotel is closest to the E 75th St., location of 2nd Avenue Deli. I do love good pastrami, but it's not easy to find on the west coast ... I don't know why. I'll decide, when I'm there. Thanks

sure. and there is no law against 'dissecting' your sandwich and wrapping the rest for later.
