Had this up in the Horror sub-forum here and figured I'd bring it here as well to FG given it's more active here. Of the following Horror series with at least three or more movies, which is your single favorite entry in each? Just cut and paste the list and replace with your choices and feel free to add any other series I forgot.
---
Friday The 13th Halloween A Nightmare On Elm Street Saw Scream Evil Dead Phantasm Alien Predator Hellraiser Child's Play The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Final Destination Insidious The Conjuring The Purge Paranormal Activity
---
My choices:
Friday The 13th - The Final Chapter Halloween - 1978 Original A Nightmare On Elm Street - New Nightmare Saw - Saw II Scream - Original Evil Dead - Evil Dead II Phantasm - Phantasm II Alien - Aliens Predator - Predator 2 Hellraiser - Original Child's Play - Original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - 2003 Remake Final Destination - Original Insidious - Chapter 3 The Conjuring - The Conjuring 2 The Purge - Anarchy Paranormal Activity - Original
And some additionals:
Hannibal Lecter - The Silence Of The Lambs Puppet Master - Puppet Master 4 Maniac Cop - Maniac Cop 2 Romero's Living Dead - Day Of The Dead (1985) Return Of The Living Dead - Part II Poltergeist - Poltergeist II Jaws - Original Cube - Original Tremors - Original Leprechaun - Original Blade - Blade II Wishmaster - Original Warlock - Undecided between either of the first two Amityville - Only seen the original, remake and It's About Time Resident Evil - Seen the first two, need to see the rest to make fair judgment
Also should note the two Annabelle films are included with the two Conjuring films, so The Conjuring counts as a 3+ movie series.
I'm sure some of my choices are sure to be controversial like Predator 2 and Poltergeist II (both are bold, I know). Not to say I disliked the originals at all, just enjoyed the subsequent movie a little more. I bet me liking the TCM remake is bound to raise more than a few eyebrows.

Neon ManiacMy list is pretty much fully inline with yours (a few different, but you didn't list a film I didn't enjoy). Had to give you specific props on listing "Wes Craven's New Nightmare." While it has a few hiccups, it's one of the most interesting movies in the horror genre I've ever seen...and I don't know why it doesn't get more love. That said I love the campy NOES Freddy, but "New Nightmare" was as bold as "Scream" in my eyes. I don't know why this movie didn't get more attention...it was a bit too long and some of the effects haven't aged well, but it was overall fantastic and, like "Scream," was self-aware enough to be out-of-left-field enough to stand out. "New Nightmare" always felt like a sort of 'proto-Scream' to me.

Definitely agree on New Nightmare. Always been my favorite. It's even Robert Englund's favorite of the series.
Which of my list would be the same as your's or different?

Definitely agree on New Nightmare. Always been my favorite. It's even Robert Englund's favorite of the series. Which of my list would be the same as your's or different? My differences are: Friday the 13th. I've got to go Part 3 (Jason unmasked in the top floor of the barn, back when he still ran, was the most horrifying part of the saga for me). My silver medal goes to "Jason X" which was (like "New Nightmare") so self-aware you couldn't help but have fun with it. I also think that "Alien 3" is right up there with the original in terms of existential horror. Ripley cannot escape this thing and her character succumbs to this in part 3. It drives the 'infection' plot to its inevitable end. I LOVE the first three installments (nearly equally), but "Aliens" made a mysterious creature into a 'bug' to me. Don't get me wrong, I can probably recite the entire movie because I love it so much, but I thought "3" was infinitely more interesting (particularly the Assembly Cut). Other than that, I'm pretty much right in line with your list. Maybe just a shout out to "Annabelle: Creation" which was way better than I expected it to be...if it falls in line with "The Conjuring" series. A couple of crumbs: I think "Puppet Master 2" is a lot of fun...as is "Final Destination 3."

Puppet Master II is another one of my favorites of the series, too. Close between that and 4. 4 would be perfect if Torch had been in it, he's my favorite puppet.

I remember not liking the first two RE movies much but they're overdue for a re-visit. I remember really hating how they changed so much from the games.

Yeah they're totally different from the games, no doubt. I enjoy them for what they are, though. After Apocalypse, the movies have already established themselves as their own thing.

I'd like to see them take the same approach as the earlier games did, focusing on the atmosphere and suspense.

As blasphemous as this sounds, I never actually played any of the games, but I am also hoping for a straight-up horror film in the RE movie franchise so it can blow all the others out of the water lol.

The early RE games are a bit dated but IMO are so much better than the movies. Lots of atmosphere and suspense in the original games before they became overly Action-oriented.

I'm assuming the ones left blank indicate the original? I just went with titles. So if its the title of the original then yes. Most of my faves do happen to be the first in the series.
