This guy deserves to be a first balloter. I almost crapped my pants when I saw his 614 home runs were EIGHT BEST. There are 7 players with more home runs? My god, I looked it up, very very sad.

If I had learned this in say 1990 when I was getting into the nitty gritty of the game, that someone in 2018 with 614 HRs would still have to make a bit of a case... I'd still blame Jose Canseco.
McGwire surely paved his career in Canseco's juicing wake, even amping it up beyond. Bonds was already a HOF lock with years to go, & his stupid ego wanted to big time McGwire's attention.

Don't understand title and OP. Thome got in on the first ballot. What are you talking about?

Even more surprising is only 2 of the eight guys ahead of Thome were juicers (arod and bonds). Man, the game really has changed.

Adrian Beltre - 462 Miguel Cabrera - 462 3. Edwin Encarnacion - 348 4. Jose Bautista - 331 5. Nelson Cruz - 323

Trout & Harper simply aren't pure mashers to accumulate that much me thinks. On the subject, I'd love to see Trout reach the 500-500 club.

Trout however, will put up sure fire HOF numbers.
