For childrens films that have scary stuff in them. For example films like return to oz or the neverending story, that are made for kids yet have scary moments in the films. Films that are rated pg yet still somewhat scary. But not animated films, well I guess animated films will work also.

Something Wicked This Way Comes had some scary moments The beginning of Monster Squad was pretty intense (Dracula's castle) The Dark Crystal was pretty twisted Labyrinth

I was going to suggest The Monster Squad, but I was surprised to learn it was rated PG-13. I recall about six or ten swear words, none of them f bombs. My recollection must be off, because as I remember it, it seemed more like a PG movie.

Any of the "childrens" movies with dead or dying pets, threatened animals, parents in jeopardy or kids separated from anything or anybody that they love will scare the beejeesus out of any child .. possibly even modern "been there done that" kids.
One of the scariest segments in an animated film that has terrorized generations of children are the Monstro scenes in Disney's Pinocchio.
ALLTIME winner on the scare meter are the FLYING MONKEYS in Wizard of OZ.

The kids turning into donkeys in Pinocchio gave me nightmares as a kid. In fact it still does.

Disney had a real sadistic streak when it came to kids ... Dumbo separated from his Mom comes immediately to mind ! Bambi's Mom ! Lady with a muzzle in "Lady and the Tramp" . 101 Dalmations slated for the furrier ! Many scenes in Pinocchio... and the list goes on....

The list goes on?, well then that's what this thread is for so that's good. Imo, and everyone elses That's what's good about dumbo, it's only 59 minutes long, but there's several disturbing things throughout it. Even though the short running time. They even threw in some racist things that made it even more disturbing, they definitely knew how to make it disturbing. The only time in cinema it was ok to be racist was in dumbo, cuz It was cool. ?
I feel like throughout the older Disney films, there was several disturbing things, and they try sometimes in the new Disney films to add disturbing touches, but it is not as good as the past.imo.

ok @joetorrence I thought that for once a miracle had happened and this was not one of your trolling threads. Silly moi. Wait a minute, you knew that that was the point of old Disney films right? Well, i'm just sayin the whole point of Disney films from way back was to make it scary and disturbing for both the children and the adults to some extent. But they, have gotten away from that too much now, imo.
I guess maybe they just ran out of ideas that would scare kids effectively so that's why. Unfortunately maybe there's just so many plot points they could come up with to disturb kids. It's kinda sad.

Children’s films? vegalyra before recommended Something Wicked This Way Comes; I’ll also point to another Disney live-action ghost movie, The Watcher in the Woods.
