...and without almost no makeup, Spencer Tracy transforms from Dr Jekyll into Mr Hyde in the movie of the same name. My understanding is that Tracy only used cotton stuffed into his cheeks...but the transformation is amazing and horrifying... Tracy famously shunned makeup, and preferred to work without any - even basic pancake - when possible. But while his transformation into Hyde is more subtle than those of Fredric March and John Barrymore before him, there are very definite makeup effects employed: dark, heavy brows and eye shadow; shading under the eyes, along the sides of the nose and other facial contours; the built-up cheeks; a dark wig; false teeth. It's probably a credit to Tracy as an actor that he gives the impression of "almost no makeup;" his transformation is even more a matter of projecting character than of physical appearance. Here's a wonderful story told by Garson Kanin about how Tracy could "project." Walking together in Manhattan, Kanin remarked that after many blocks, not one passerby seemed to recognize Tracy. "That's because I don't want 'em to," Tracy told Kanin. "If I wanted them to recognize me, they would." A skeptical Kanin challenged Tracy to prove it, so Tracy said, "Okay, for just this next block, I'll let people recognize me." For the length of that block, they were approached by one passerby after another: "Aren't you Spencer Tracy?" And as they then crossed to the next block, Tracy went back to being anonymous, and no one else approached them.

I was reminded of this after you posted your movie you last watched, HirundoRustica . Tuppence Middleton as Kalique Abrasax in the movie Jupiter Ascending (2015). As she first appears... And after a quick dip in a magic hot tub... As Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) says...
