Well, there was that $300 teddy bear, but then he was made with really expensive fur.

Me ? I usually squeeze my nickels so hard that Jefferson finds himself inside Montecello when I am done with them ... so personally I tend to not overspend ... but if I think of something ... I'll be bock (as Ahnold tends to say !)

NalkarjPlease tell us more about the $100 hamburger ... sounds intriguing. I'm expecting that truffles figured into it somehow. (The 'scroom kind, not the chocolates. )

my sister once bought a miniskirt for over a hundred dollars. while unemployed - her choice - and back living at home with our parents. if she was employed and living on her own, i wouldn't have a problem.

A second hand Philips CD-i multimedia player.
Mind you, it was virtually unused, but I still paid too much considering how much they are worth.
I'm also one of the very few people who like the CD-i...it's a mess, but a charming one.

(The 'scroom kind, not the chocolates. ) Well, to make a long story short... My friend’s brother is a Navy officer, in Japan right now, but soon before he joined up he decided to treat himself and friends to one of the fanciest dinners they could find (in New York, naturally) and ordered this burger with, yes, truffles, foie gras, and gold leaf. Carpe diem, I guess! Actually, with that, I’m surprised it wasn’t more than 100… I’m hungry for a burger now.

12 dollars to mail a wallet back to the woman in jersey that somehow made it to almost my door. complete with delivery confirmation. she had a lot of credit cards, bank cards and a cheque made out to her. i wrote her a little note where i found it and how i did not find any money inside other than all the cards and the cheque.
it arrived about 2 days after i sent it. still waiting for the thank you.

NalkarjI thought that would be the one. I remember reading about that "gold leaf burger" several years ago ! I suppose the fries cost extra !

Geez-louise, that’s infuriating. I have a similar story, completely off-topic, but in writing out Christmas cards last month/year, we sent one to a family who live only a few minutes’ drive away. Where does it end up? Northern Pennsylvania, to someone we don’t know, who kindly calls and says, “Huh, I think I got a Christmas card from you.” It didn’t have his name on it or the proper street number; the only thing in common was the street name, and it wasn’t even a street (as I’d addressed it) but an avenue. He very nicely gave it back to the post office and explained that, somehow, it had gone wildly off-track. So, yeah, the post office was just overworked around the holidays, but it’s still remarkable how it ended up there. deembastille, I do wish, though, that your correspondent in Jersey were as nice as mine in Pennsylvania!

Nalkarj Christmas Card being the current "topic" My cousin sent me one and addressed it to RFD Box 20 instead of RFD Box 21 and the people at the LOCAL PO sent it back as "not at this address". We are talking about a town and surrounding area, the entire population of which would fit into a teacup ! msdemos sorry ... we tend to "stray" and shall get back on topic soon ....

So, yeah, the post office was just overworked around the holidays, but it’s still remarkable how it ended up there. deem bastille, I do wish, though, that your correspondent in Jersey were as nice as mine in Pennsylvania! i know. been there done that. we learned earlier on that it doesn't matter what the street address is, if the ZIPCODE IS WRONG even by one number. FORGET IT! my aunt would always forget what our zip code was when we moved to northern Westchester. and this was way before the internet was even a thing much less accessible for the masses. get this..- our town only had a PO box and no truck to deliver the mail to our houses. if we wanted that we would have to transfer our mail to the next town [only one town away] but then our address would read the new town and the new zip code. too much hassle and we passed by our post office nearly every day anyway so whatever. and recently, i sent my sister's christmas present to her new house down in the big easy and i had written the address with a big marker and the zip code was a little bloody with the numbers -- especially since i write my sevens with a slash through the middle. so the usps guy makes me rewrite it and i do and get served by his colleague. she laughed as i came up to her and helped me so nicely. sending that was a pretty penny but it was kind of heavy and still a little fraile, even though the packaging itself was helpful.

$44 on a music CD - I saw it in a shop and I really wanted it. This was before the days of internet shopping so it's not like I could find a better deal online.

I spent $90 on a Blu-ray collection of the first four Alien movies that comes in a big facehugger egg. It was pretty much the going rate, but usually I get better deals on things. The most I've spent otherwise on a movie collection is $60 on all 22 Bond movies (at the time).
Another time, I spent $24 on two fireball shots with a girl who didn't let me know she was a lesbian until afterward.

About the only thing I really regret buying is a expensive paintball gun as I simply went too high end and did not use it enough to get my money's worth out of it. it's the only high priced item (I don't remember exactly what I paid but it was something in the neighborhood of $1k for the setup) I really regret buying. but that was back in my early 20's (I am 38 now), so it's more excusable as I feel people are generally wiser with their money when they get older (but then again some people just suck at money management). but outside of that... there is slightly some other things here and there, but nothing major. like for example... the price at the time in Aug 2016 for a 5TB HGST hard drive was on the better side but I am pretty sure it's the 2nd highest price I ever paid for a hard drive which is $179.99 (I think I paid $200 or so back around 2000 for a 80GB Maxtor hard drive(I still have this but it basically does not work)) and while it's supposedly more reliable than your typical hard drive given tests I have seen online it is a bit steep as I generally don't pay more than about $130-ish MAX for a hard drive and usually I stick to $100-120 range as it's generally wiser to stay to around that price range for plenty of space but the price is still reasonable and you can simply have it last til larger drives come along and prices drop etc. but as long as that 5TB drive lasts for something around 10 years or more then it won't be too bad then. but if it only lasts for say 5 years I definitely won't be happy considering that price point. moviebuffbradYou don't think that was a excuse to make you feel better (or a easy way for them to say no to you)?
