I have this memory that is vivid, but seems to be at least part false. I am at my mother's place visiting when the TV show Matlock came on. In it Matlock has a partner in his practice, his daughter Brianna (this part appears to have been fabricated in my mind, if not the rest of it). She is unmarried, blonde, about 40. She takes a case defending a client for murder and falls in love with him having an affair. Basically the plot was a redo of "The Jagged Edge" with her doing the Glenn Close part. It was so predictable I knew the ending. But I can't find such a plot description in any Matlock episodes. Did I cook this whole thing up in my mind when dreaming? As I said it is vivid, right down to a scene at the end with Matlock consoling his daughter over the shock of being duped by a client, falling in love with him and finding his motivation fake, and then killing him.

I once asked my mother a question about Matlock and she bristled saying that she didn't like it or watch it. Funny thing is she seemed to turn it on every night it was on when I was staying at her place. She also sent me tapes of it to my overseas address without my soliciting them. So she taped it without watching it? I think she knew its reputation of being an old folks show and didn't wish to be lumped in that demographic. I had no problem saying I liked it then, and now I am nearing the age my mother was when the show was on.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it adhered far more closely to the plot of "The Jagged Edge" than this.

Well, if you've been through, I'm presuming, the IMDb, episode summaries and there wasn't a match, then, you either imagined it or are confusing it with another series. Or maybe both. Some media website may have most or all the episodes online for you to view.

Maaatlock!
The Matlock Freeway.
Just for historical purposes, Andy Griffith must have been searching for a new role he could find longevity with.
He played a nasty lawyer in SAVAGES, a great tv movie from 1974. He wants to kill this young guy in a hunting trip and when the guy says he is crazy, Griffith replies with: "I have often been called that by those I've defeated."
He did a show in 77 where he was a sheriff of a small California town but that didnt catch on.
Been meaning to check out episodes of HAWKINS, starring Jimmy Stewart as a Southern lawyer with Strother Martin as his brother.

By the way, two more possibilities from Matlock: “The Seduction” (Season 1, Episode 4) and “The Don: Part 2” (1:6).

And here’s another possibility: “The Defendant” ( Matlock S8:E12). N.B.: This daughter’s name is “Leanne,” which sounds closer than any of the others to your “Brianna,” geode .

Thank you very much, you nailed it. I am pretty sure that this is the episode in my memory. It featured a daughter that looks just like the character I remember. The "Brianna" is wrong as I suspected. I think I got that mixed up with the name of the actress playing the part, "Brynn"... I was able to watch a few moments on Dailymotion but the video keeps resetting to an ad (in my case in Thai) and going back to the beginning. But i saw a moment at the end that was spot on with my memory. This is hard to watch. They put seats in front and a curtain around the image, but worse they have distorted the image by stretching it to widescreen. It was 4:3 back in the day, as was all TV 25 years ago. Episode

Whew! Happy to have helped, geode . SOLVED! Thanks again. If I ever get the thing to play properly I will see how closely it adheres to "The Jagged Edge" ...at the very least the end appears to have been heavily influenced by it.

Can't get that link to work here in Thailand. I get redirected to a porn site. It is a good thing that I got the Dailymotion link to work earlier in the week and watched the whole episode. The main premise is certainly borrowed from "The Jagged Edge" and I'm surprised that I cannot find anybody else that recognized this. However, the end is different and I think that it was inspired by the ending of "The Silence of the Lambs" with a twist in the plot in a different direction.
