Also, as proof of the herd-like mentality of your ilk ( ), you're not the only one who has said it and I wasn't referring specifically to you. It's the go-to crutch of the atheist argument. There is an atheist argument? why wasn't I told? I subscribe to the non-existent atheist bulletin! Apparently there is. Per cupcakes, atheism seems pretty organized in its philosophies. But I was referring here to the played-out strategy of guilt-tripping, so I was not actually referring to a philosophic argument. I was referring to a tactic.

tpfkar Oh, you mean everybody agrees on the golden rule? The one found in the scriptures? The one written by humans into "scripture" of course. Tinted-glass readings leave you with all kinds of silly. When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean. So to be clear, you believe parts of the Bible?

The Bible is not an inverse-truth oracle, if that's what you mean. It's got gobs of whatever was of the day combined with whatever eccentricities/angles the writers/combiners had. And I will kill her children with pestilence and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

You be tripping per normal. Specifically, "atheists" just don't believe in gods, although the term is often used colloquially for those who don't believe in a supernatural or think that "supernatural" as a concept is semantics/incoherent. Oh, I just saw this because you've been on ignore since I told you you were on ignore. G'bye!

Do you believe certain moral teachings in the Bible are good moral teachings?

The discussion wasn't about what deities you believed in or didn't believe in. The discussion was the codification of the atheist's morals. You said they were pretty universal and less arbitrary than me choosing one book as a blanket for my moral philosophy. Am I misrepresenting what you said?

As a whole it and specifically it's core message is grossly immoral. No one whose testicles are crushed or whose penis is cut off shall be admitted to the assembly of the LORD.

You guys were on "atheistic ethics" and how it's all just opinion and how you didn't pick your ethics. And my response was with "atheists who follow human empathy, rationality, and society", not with the odd LotR believing nutcase. Babble, babble toil and trabble.

The Golden Rule existed before the Bible did. And yes, I believe that Tiberius was a real person, or that the Dead Sea, the river Jordan and the Sea Genezaret exist. So technically, parts of the Bible are true. London is a real city. The station King's Cross exists, and the Prime Minister of the UK resides in Downing Street. All these facts can be found in the Harry Potter books. Do you believe parts of Harry Potter?

No one gets this butthurt over Christians/Christianity unless they had a truly traumatic experience as a kid. I do feel for the guy though. Whatever happened, I'm sure it sucked.

The Golden Rule existed before the Bible did. I'm interested in this. Please cite evidence. I thought it was common knowledge! I have never really thought about it enough to give chapter and verse or links, I have merely assumed that it was an evolutionary construct by humans in developing societies so that tribalism didn't wipe everyone out?
