Cant believe the herd mentallity from critics on this one. Does no one have some balls to call it mediocre? Sign of the times when an action fantasy flick using blacks to politicize Hollywood's agenda is now considered the ultimate movie... I'll wait to see this movie when it's in the Wal-Mart $5.00 bin, 10 years from now.. upon entering the cinema, I somewhat shared your sentiment. Thinking "o mg, the critics are just pandering to the minorities-again/scared to be called racists if they dont love it". I was already preparing my own review (in my head) to be kinda apologetic for not loving it and was thinking of ways to present my review (having estimated it was going to be an average or just slightly above average movie) in a way that would minimize my exposure to being called a racist. Which I genuinely believe I am not. But I loved the movie. And now I am going to be one of the critics giving it a great score. I havent done the math yet, so I dont know the exacts score but my first guesstimate is somewhere between 80-90%. It was so much more than a "good black movie". It presented genuinely way-above-average dilemmas and multilayered plot that had internal logic and was thought provoking. Unseen for a superhero movie, certainly for a Marvel one. Now add that it looked amazing and had great actors, there is very little left for criticism. I have a few minor gripes with it, but really minor ones. I would highly recommend it. Now the interesting part is that even if you took away this particular ethnicity from it, and moved it for example to ancient Rome or the Mayan civilization or ancient China (modified to have the same technology/material) it would STILL be a great movie. the fact that it is about a group of people that are black is not the movies primary or only interesting aspect. And in my eyes thats how you can tell it really is a great movie. It just that strong of a story on its own. In a way it reminded me somewhat of An United Kingdom. Just a more entertaining one

I would have been interested except for them marketing it as a black power thing. And that I find the MCU movies so boring and forgettable. I still watch Blade now and then. The MCU movies, not interested. the marketing did unjustice to the movie in this way. Because thats how I viewed the movie (because of the marketing) also, before seeing it. But the black power thing is not the movies predominant feature, in my eyes. Its there, sure, and I am glad that people who feel underrepresented in media and specifically within the superhero genre felt satisfied (I was the only white person in my theatre. NOT THE AUDITORIUM. the ENTIRE theatre of 18 auditoriums seemed to have been filled with black people only. If there were any white people mixed in with any of the crowds, i certainly didnt see any while queing for the tickets, soda, or bathroom, or in my auditorium). but the movie doest not stand and fall with the "black power thing". The "black power thing" is just one of many strong suits the movie wears. It would be a mistake not to see it because of that marketing. If you are into the Marvel universe and/or the superhero genre, you should for sure see this film and see it on a big screen.

Yes, Black Panther is definitely over-hyped. The movie is basically left-wing political propaganda that panders to SJWs. And the writing is just awful.
A Wakandan woman walks into a casino with a spear and stabs people and doesn't get shot by security guards. It's a casino so there should've been plenty of heavily-armed security guards.
A villain gets arrested in Korea after a high-speed chase on a public street but the villain isn't interrogated by the Korean authorities. Instead, the villain is interrogated by a CIA agent (basically an American spy) and a Wakandan. Why the fuck would the Korean government allow an American spy and a Wakandan to question a criminal arrested on Korean soil?
Just really awful writing.

Yes, Black Panther is definitely over-hyped. If you're ashamed of comics.

I haven’t seen it, but from my observations and what I have seen from other fans, yes. Politics has permeated everything now. We are seeing this year’s Get Out and Wonder Woman. I don’t usually subscribe to this type of thinking, but there definitely seems to be some kind of mass hysteria going on in regards to this movie. Just the other week when the first bed review came out, people lost it on Twitter.

its not a real "only" though is it. it still shows people think its a very very good movie. its not like the fans thinks its average and critics think its gold. critics think its great and fans think its very very good. but enough of them went to see it to indicate that the movie is significant either way.

As if 77% was low. Also how many GODDAMN times do you have to be told that a bunch of trolls downrated the movie on RT (they even created groups on Facebook to encourage people to do it) and that over 4000 trolls rated the movie 1/10 on IMDb before it even came out and they are also the ones voting all of the positive reviews as unhelpful until it sticks in your head? I think you’ve been told those things over 15 times in the last couple of days and yet you keep spamming the board with that crap.
