McDaniels' agent quits after being stunned by decision
1:55 PM CT
ESPN
Agent Bob LaMonte says he has terminated his relationship with Josh McDaniels in the wake of McDaniels' surprising decision to turn down the Indianapolis Colts' head-coaching job and remain the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots.
"The rivalry is back on." That was GM Chris Ballard's reaction to the Patriots and their offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, who reversed field and decided to remain in New England rather than become the next head coach of the Colts.
"My word is my bond," LaMonte told Sports Business Journal on Wednesday. "Once you break that, there's nothing left."
A source told ESPN's Dan Graziano that LaMonte was stunned Tuesday when McDaniels informed him that he would not accept the Colts job and instead would stay with the Patriots.
LaMonte expected the phone call from McDaniels to be a question about preparation for Wednesday's scheduled news conference in Indianapolis, the source told Graziano.
When McDaniels told him he was staying in New England, LaMonte replied that McDaniels was "committing professional suicide," according to the source.

it's a fascinating story.
it's a douchey move by this prick (McDaniels) - but he's looking out for who he considers #1 - himself.
but we all know what's coming to him in the end and how this is going to turn out long term instead of short term.
if he does take over the Pats in the future (which we're all expecting now) - will he achieve 1/1,000,000 of the success of Belichick without Brady?
by careful what you ask for in life......

So basically McDaniels is a shmuck. Good for this agent getting out from under this.

Exactly what rivalry is that? The Peyton - Brady Rivalry? Or is it the Deflategate thing? This rivalry is hardly "back on"

Exactly what rivalry is that? The Peyton - Brady Rivalry? Or is it the Deflategate thing? This rivalry is hardly "back on" I happen to love Ballard's character - he handled the whole thing remarkably well in my eyes. He was completely honest, professional, and even mentioned that he was more concerned with the Edwin Jackson tragedy than the Super Bowl on Sunday. I'd hate to think how Grigsen would have handled it. The rivalry comment was just a fun piece of banter for the fans. I don't think it's controversial to suggest that Indy and the Pats have a rivalry which is even more bitter now.
