Yes, but they're very good at inventing things on the spur of the moment to compensate for what they don't know.

Considering what you're referring to here is a metaphor and not a parable, you're in no position to be talking about people not knowing the shit they think they do.

So am I, dumbass, and how it's written in The Bible is as a metaphor, dumbass. If the whole thing was a parable, that would make Jesus a fictional character, dumbass; and even if you agreed Jesus was a fictional character in a parable, dumbass, that would still make that particular statement ("eat of his flesh/drink of his blood") a metaphor within a parable, dumbass. It would only be a parable if the story involved people actually eating his flesh and drinking his blood, dumbass. Dumbass.

For those wanting to understand the difference: a metaphor is any single instance of non-literal language in the form of "X is Y." "LeBron James is the king," e.g. A parable is a short, didactic story that uses metaphoric and/or symbolic language in which elements within the story generally represent abstract concepts. Technically, the "eat of my flesh/drink of my blood" is more symbol than metaphor (the difference is that metaphor is "X is Y," while symbol is "X (is Y)" where the "Y" is left unstated/implicit), but it's clearly not a parable as it's not telling a story; there's no character and no events. If it was a parable, it would be used within a story where characters ate flesh/drank blood to absorb their powers. The parable might look something like Highlander-meets-cannibals, but you could do it.
