From 1969 till now, and nothing has happened! And there are dreams to go to Mars, and even thoughts that a Jupiter moon could be great once Earth blows up itself, Jupiter moon?? My great great great great grandchildren would be the firsts on Io
Io? the one who came up with that name, was he totally out of ideas or did he (could be a she) listen to a cat, they do strange sounds from time tome 1972. Actually, December 14, 1972, at 5:55 pm EST to be a bit more precise.

teleadm If I’m remembering correctly, Io was named after Greek mythology—one of Zeus’s many mistresses.

Lunar Land, yep it's possible to buy land on the moon. I believe the idea is that this land is passed down and your descendants would one day build something on it. The United Nations passed the Outer Space Treaty in 1967 stating no government can own the Moon or another body in the solar system

I don't know if this is true or not, but you can buy property (acres) on the moon through the The Lunar Registry and be provided a deed stating you own a certain portion of it.
Honestly, I think it's a joke. I can't see how you could technically own any part of something in our solar system without some form of government stepping in and intervening.Besides, how in the heck are you supposed to get there? Are you going to blast yourself into space? How much would the gear and equipment cost? Is there training? We already have enough stupid people here on planet Earth that can barely operate a motor vehicle properly, let alone try to inhabit another planet. I can imagine some dolt walking outside without a spacesuit and suddenly dying due to a lack of oxygen. I suppose one of these days we will colonize the moon. I just don't see it happening in our lifetime. If Musk or some other private entity succeeds in sending a colony to the moon, I highly doubt it would hold up. I can't see any corporation leaving certain chunks of land alone because someone back down on earth theoretically owns it. Good luck with that. On what basis can they intervene? They don't own the land and they aren't the ones doing the discovering it. If no one owns it I would think whoever lands there first, whether it's a government or private corporation, would be entitled to ownership..

Elon Musk wants to put a colony on the moon. For the sake of the conversation, let’s say he succeeds in doing that. No country or government owned property there, so does that mean that if space colonization becomes a reality corporations will then start owning planets and moons? The United States Government technically owns the moon for obvious reasons--But for the sake of International Harmony, no one actually owns it, and nobody really cares about it--Mars will be a more interesting situation--Technically, we'll 'own' Mars also, but will probably divide it up, Antarctica style--of course most of us will be long dead by then

It was a global accomplishment, not a national one. I think the US even put a plaque on the moon saying that the arrival was for all of mankind, or something to that effect. I might be wrong about that last part, though.

Elon Musk wants to put a colony on the moon. For the sake of the conversation, let’s say he succeeds in doing that. No country or government owned property there, so does that mean that if space colonization becomes a reality corporations will then start owning planets and moons? Antarctica styles, will eventually get spliced up peacefully to whomever wishes to set up camp there. Seriously, though, it's a good opportunity to start a world government. So basically everyone owns it. Interplanetary and interstellar travel will be run strictly by private enterprise because of how our society works. The goal will be to set up multiple civilizations in other solar systems so our cancerous species will never go out of style. Even if that happens the meteor showers and tidal waves will come eventually. Lunar Land, yep it's possible to buy land on the moon. I believe the idea is that this land is passed down and your descendants would one day build something on it. The United Nations passed the Outer Space Treaty in 1967 stating no government can own the Moon or another body in the solar system If Musk or some other private entity succeeds in sending a colony to the moon, I highly doubt it would hold up. If no one owns it I would think whoever lands there first, whether it's a government or private corporation, would be entitled to ownership.. Who owns it will be determined the same way it has always been determined by our species: The one with the biggest muscles, stick, rocks, swords, guns, bombs, poisons, [insert weapon of choice here] decides. Being the first one to get there or the first one to establish a lasting settlement there means absolutely nothing.
