So you just going to ignore Supergirl, Catwoman and Elektra then? Just like those 3 movies were smaller budget female-led superhero movies, Blade and Spawn were smaller budget black-led superhero movies. Black Panther and Wonder Woman are the 1st big budget superhero movies for their leads. Stop hating on the MCU, kid. we hate that MCU destroyed the genre's credibility. Okay toss Catwoman from that line-up. It was just too bad for them to see it as something. But even if it/they were bad, why was there nothing before those movies came out? Wonder Woman had all this hooplah about being the 1st female-led superhero movie. Before it even premiered. Is this thread just about being pissy that they are going to keep doing that for every new "something"-led/majority movie that comes along? Will the next one be a Northstar and Aurora movie that has the 1st gay-led superhero movie? Or the 1st lesbian-led superhero movie with Miss America? Ms Marvel the 1st Muslim-led superhero movie? Will summers8 make a thread about all of them?

LMAO. CNN ran a headline saying Black Panther "was for film what Obama was for the presidency." Um, Blade, Spawn? Black Panther is for film what Barack Obama was for the presidencyedition.cnn.com/2018/02/09/opinions/black-panther-black-america-donald-trump-bailey-opinion/index.htmlOkay CNN. okay. Funny. mcu fans, say what you want about Wonder Woman but the SJW Ridiculous stuff never sank this low with Wonder Woman. the highest DC fans did was call for Oscars which is pretty nothing and small compared to the president of the most powerful country in the world.I liked when marvel made movies like Blade and he was just a great superhero that could kick ass that just happen to be black. CNN is seriously pathetic. How does anyone take these clowns seriously anymore? This is a 100% racist article. It is kind of ironic the author mentions racism every sentence yet still writes a completely racist article. Look at it like this, if a white man wrote this article and replaced every instance of black pride here with white power and white empowerment, it would read like KKK Weekly. The hypocrisy from this rag of a network now is hilariously sad. Also, do people seriously forget the many other black led super hero movies? I mean, there have been tons of them.

And anyways, whenever anyone mentions how BP is the first Black Superhero they're just talking about how in the comics he was Marvel's first Black Superhero.

Blade was credible however. No question. Great movie with not too bad of a sequel either.

I don’t think we should begrudge the black community for celebrating a new, more fully realized black superhero film. j/s

My problem is that every review comments on the color of the character's skin and not the content of the movie. I will be seeing this in IMAX this weekend. I think it looks awesome. I am not criticizing the movie at all. I am merely saying that it is getting rave reviews for the characters being black and that is not what I, or anyone, should judge a movie on.

Granted, I have not been reading that many reviews to avoid spoilers but, of the ones I’ve read not a single one comments solely on the color of the cast’s skin. Race inevitably comes up but, no one I’ve read says it is the only reason to see the film. Would be grateful if you would post a link to one or two offenders you’ve encountered - many thanks in advance.

we hate that MCU destroyed the genre's credibility. The MCU saved the genre after Nolan and Singer nearly destroyed it with their creative bankruptcy. How did Nolan destroy it? Before he came around Batman was a fucking joke thanks to Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, hell the batnipples still get brought up to this day. Nolan, with the help of Goyer, had to reboot the character just to wash the stink away. His approach to the character and lore was a fresh, but challenging, take. If it wasn't for Nolan and Goyer, they would have tried to continue the Burton/Schumacher universe or put the character on hold like they did with Superman.

The MCU saved the genre after Nolan and Singer nearly destroyed it with their creative bankruptcy. How did Nolan destroy it? By giving credence to the stance that non-grounded comic book elements in a CBM were things to be ashamed of and the "grounded" way was the only respectable way to do a CBM.

How dare Chris Nolan play around with the superhero genre and be successful with it! What he should have done was copy and the Adam West (RIP) Batman and made an entire film like the old tv series! NO WAIT! He should have copied the Christopher Reeves Superman film and have Batman save cats from trees! NO WAIT! HE obviously should have just copied the Tim Burton films!

It may not have been his intent, but he did end up more or less advocating that "grounded" way was the only way to go from now on. It's why the MCU keeps getting ripped into for not being "grounded" enough.

Their films are enjoyed by many, hell they have two Avenger films that gross over a billion. Justice League couldn't even hit that mark. The only thing that annoys me is the fact that people want all these comic book movies to be the same, look the same and play the same. No one wants variety! You either option A or option B.

Yeah, and it still doesn't stop there from being hordes who keep harping on how "silly" and "kiddie" it all is....because they aren't afraid to wear costumes or bring in stuff like aliens and magic and make it clear the MCU world isn't a "grounded" one. Now you know what it's like putting up with Nolanites and FoX-men fans.
