Only a few hours ago I was woken up by peculiar jangling sounds, like coins being moved around by something. At first I thought "Oh great, I have mice", and then coins started to be thrown straight at me while I was in bed. I tried to get up to see what was happening, but I was suddenly pinned down by some unseen force and when I attempted to move my hands to free myself something held them down. It felt as if fingernails were digging into my hands, almost hard enough to break the skin and draw blood.
Despite struggling as much as possible for about several minutes I was unable move because something, I still couldn't see, was firmly holding me down and then it just stopped and I actually woke up...I guess.

True, robin . I too got goosebumps, on a hot summer's day, the first time I heard that story. It has stuck with me for many years since. Sleep paralysis need not refer to a physical paralysis, by the way, but merely an inability to react. If you could move your arms and legs but had a feeling of "my God, there's nothing I can do about this," that would count as sleep paralysis as well. Green eyes, though? And you remember its looking like you? Curious, and more similar, I think, to a particularly terrifying nightmare, which often draws on the subconscious in ways that sleep terrors and sleep paralysis do not (as far as we know). In a very bad nightmare, the self seems to separate. (I won't get into dubious parapsychological explanations, but the point remains.) I have had many nightmares in which the "I," the self, was three selves--the participant in the action of the dream, a removed presence with knowledge that I was in a dream, and of course the actual "I" that was physically sleeping. Wow, that's confusing, but do you know what I mean? you really should get more work published, you seem like a talented and fun writer.

Thanks for the compliment, hi224. I intend to try my hand at a novel one-day; so far, my shorter work hasn’t exactly worked out (nothing published yet, worse luck).

naterdawgI know you haven’t posted in this thread in a while, but I remembered your story about (if you’ll forgive the phrase) “twig-boy,” and I wondered if you happened to know of these Creepypasta stories. They’re surprisingly well-written, and—while they’re fictional—they explore the possibilities of things in the woods, à la old legends about sylvan mysteries (which is, perhaps, why they’re so effective—they tap into primordial fears). Just wondering and thought you may be interested.

It was the opposite of scary, but when I was 18 I was traveling with a friend and stopped for a night at his parents' house in Lubbock, Texas. I woke around 4:15 AM to find my grandmother standing by the bed, looking at me and radiating love. She had been in the hospital in California and had been sick for a long time. I have no idea how long we "visited," because all I remember is being wrapped in her pure, unconditional love. I called my mother immediately and she said my grandmother had just died. I've never been afraid of death since. my grandma passed last year from a bladder infection. April 9th 2018 will be a whole year since shes been gone sometimes I can still hear her "asking me to fix her some breakfast." or asking me to help her "walk around the house."

It's been almost exactly a year since I posted that. I'd forgotten all about posting it. I came really close to dying from a kidney infection about two months after that, so I was thinking about Granny a lot while I was in the hospital. I quit smoking after 45 years as well, something she had bugged me to do ever since I started. Thanks for reminding me. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.
