My ideal one is 60-64. I can tolerate up to 68. Anything above it makes me super uncomfortable.
I just love the feeling of being slightly cold when going to sleep. Makes the whole experience (of sleeping) better. Trying to sleep in 71 and above means getting almost no sleep for me. I have been called weird because of how cold I like the room at night. I can easily sleep in 55-60 too, but that may be too low even for me. But 60-64 is just perfect.
What about you? What do you call ideal for sleeping?
60-65 should have been 60-64. not sure how to change poll answers once published.

temperature is weird for me. i was told that you shouldn't keep your study room or office too warm because then you get drowsy... so by rights your bedroom should be a bit on the warm side... now all these twits are saying: no, keep it cooler.
i hate being artificially hot. i can't stay in long sleeves if the room has the heat on [that i can't do anything about]. i can be cold, though. cold i can handle [except for frozen feet].

Nora I can see why. because while what's optimal might vary a bit from person-to-person I would expect the majority of people to be somewhere around 68-72f for their comfortable/optimal room temp as I feel between those temps you cover a decent portion of people who prefer things a bit cooler and those a bit warmer without it going too far either way. or look at it this way... If I had to pick one comfortable temperature for people in general I would bet on 70f as while you could not please everyone I think it would be the best balance between warm/cold. like it's a comfortable temp in general. although I would say if one was outside relaxing with a decent breeze I would rather not go less than about 75f otherwise I might start to get a bit cold as this is what I noticed when riding motorcycles a while ago. so I guess for me, in terms of a general outside temp, I would prefer somewhere around 75-80f with no humidity as sort of the optimal summer temp. but anyways... given the topic and choices in the poll I went with 69-70f. but with that said... I am used to sleeping with a fan on year round as it's easier for me to sleep with that going as it helps drown out background noise etc. sleeping without a fan would be more difficult for me in general unless I am really tired. I got one of those industrial heavy duty fans (20" blade) which I had since 2002 (which is Mfg date of the fan to) as they produce more general steady hum noise to block out things. I prefer to keep room temp no lower than 67f otherwise it starts to become uncomfortable. but more in the 68-70f range is more optimal for me. but where I sleep tends to fluctuate quite a bit in winter vs summer as in the winter when things really start to get cold outside (i.e. roughly teens and lower in terms of temps) things tend to float in the 62-66f range but in the summer when it's generally pretty warm outside it's usually around 75-85f as while we got central air in the house, the room I sleep in basically does not get anything as it only gets from what leaks from other rooms into the room I sleep which means it does not help too much but some as it helps keep things dryer than that high humidity as I can't stand when you start getting into that 80's, especially mid-80's, and higher outside with high humidity as without AC in those situations I would be pretty cranky as while I can tolerate heat to some degree after a certain point it will end up getting me upset. but as a general guideline for me on hot vs cold... I would rather have temps outside be too hot than too cold in general as cold weather limits what you can do (especially when it comes to going outside) and I just generally feel better in warmer whether (i.e. 70's on up) than colder weather (i.e. say something like 50's, especially 40's, and lower). but I will say when it gets to about the 80's and higher, especially mid-80's, with high humidity then AC is a must otherwise I would not be a person someone wants to be around p.s. I am surprised to see 60-65f being the most selected currently. my guess is these are mainly people who are young that are always hot because their hormones are out of whack etc. outrider127 I can imagine people in Florida preferring rather higher temps for their comfortable temp because they are more used to super hot temps than a good portion of the USA year round. like 70f or so would probably seem pretty cold to many who live in Florida I suspect.

Probably 72-75 or so for me. I normally sleep with no blanket or even sheet. A lower temperature than that and I start to get cold, but it's difficult for me to wake up enough to put a sheet or blanket on.
With a sheet or blanket I quickly start to get too warm unless the room is pretty cold. It would have to be pretty cold for me to not naturally kick off the cover.
I don't know why I usually sleep with no covering now (I do sleep with a shirt and shorts, though; I don't sleep naked). I started not using a covering about ten years ago. It just started feeling more "natural" to me.

I like to sleep with a blanket/quilt so the cooler the better within reason. Voted for 60-65 (approx. 14-17 C)

mslo79 i would always pick colder outside weather over hotter. i feel like when its too hot there is simply nothing you can do to help it when outside, unless you are by water. but when its too cold you can always get an extra layer of clothes. sure when it gets so cold that your eyeballs freeze up thats no fun. but other than that: cold all the way.

Yeah, it's weird. I don't know exactly why I started doing it. I would have thought it would feel weird/seem uncomfortable before I started doing it. I think I may have just kicked everything off a couple times and then that started feeling more comfortable to me (barring it being pretty cold). It might have been because the temperature in the apartment I'm in now is so wonky. It's particularly difficult to cool things off enough in my apartment in the summer, though not so difficult to heat things in the winter. My wife always says that I "generate heat," and I've always sweated very easily. She'll want me under the covers with her sometimes if she's cold, but then about 10 minutes later, she wants me out of the covers because I'm making it uncomfortably warm, lol.

NoraWe seem to be opposites here for sure but I realize that some people honestly like the cold over the hot but not me as while if it gets too hot or too cold, both end up sucking, I just find things to be all around better in the heat in terms of general convenience and feeling all around better in warm weather than cold. but anyways... because while you can add clothes, like you say, it becomes a event just to go outside and not only that when you got to wear gloves etc to keep warm you can't really do anything with your hands that requires more precision etc because of the gloves stopping it. plus, I would constantly be thinking about getting back inside when it's really cold out where as when it's just pretty hot, but not the extreme heat, it's much more comfortable as you can stay outside for longer. hell, even in extreme heat (say 90f+ with high humidity)... I would say it's easier to tolerate that for say 20-30min than the extreme cold for that same amount of time like if you just went outside and stood around for a bit especially if you can stand in the shade for the extreme heat scenario here. also, having AC helps as that's pretty much a must to keep summer, especially the hotter points of it, much more tolerable. where I am at we generally peak around the mid-90's give or take a little (not long ago (without checking I would say within last 5 years or so) our temp gauge was JUST shy of 100F but this was the hottest I seen it in years) in the summer and the winter generally bottoms out around 0f but sometimes hits -10f to -15f or so. this year has been colder than usual with many days around 0f give or take 10 degrees or so. even as I type this it's 7.0f outside at about 15min til 5am. it's just easier to go in and out of the house in the summer than winter etc which is why I think it's all around better and, I don't know about you, but it's easier to tolerate the extreme heat than extreme cold for say 20min or something. but with that said, which would you prefer if given the choice... A)40's and 50's year round or B)70's and 80's year round ill definitely side with option B as to me I sort of see temps like this without getting into too much detail... 90's and higher = straight up sucks, especially high humidity. 70's and 80's = my preferred temps. although high 70's to low 80's is where I would prefer things with low humidity. 50's and 60's = not bad but not optimal either. sort of my minimum temps before it starts to suck especially below the high 60's as those are close enough to my more optimal ranges outside. 30's and 40's = pretty much sucks but not the extreme cold either. 20's and lower = straight up sucks. the 20's are what I would say the early stages of the more extreme cold temps.
