Just want to add a site that is similar to IMDB - talkaboutfilms.club, already talked to admin privately. Would even offer him free hosting on my server if he wishes, just needs a domain name. At least this way the board is his own and so is the data for backups etc As I've said over on imdb this move will mean you can no longer trust ratings over there (not a fan of RT's ratings either) And I believe it's all about money/big company influence, any other reason is pathetic really, been a member 5 years and trolls didn't bother me, tho I wasn't a prolific poster, more a reader of the already posted questions I'd had I suspect, without proof, that the reason behind IMDb's decision is fear of bad image for "failing" to suppress "hate speech" and refusal to spend the necessary effort to monitor it and keep it clean. Facebook has been in the spotlight for pretty much the same reason recently. They had to react because "speech" is their business but it's not IMDb's so the feature was dropped. How many moderators did they have does anyone know? Every forum has trolls, part of life, don't feed them and they disappear Part of me still believes this was about their bottom line and echelon pressure and the reasons stated are just a viable excuse

Trolls did not disappear. The GoT Board was full of them (I have to this day 763 users on "ignore"). Cleaning up would have meant added effort for a thing which looked more like a wart than a desirable part of their business anyway.

There is no sure fire way of routing out trolls except ignoring them and hoping they go away when they are not fed ... warn people to not respond and so on. On a popular board with lots of traffic and newcomers, you always have a fair share of naive people who take the trolls' bait. The next things that happens, and it accounts for a great deal of the noisy traffic, is that people start dealing with each other more than with the dedicated subject of the board. They are not trolling, just enjoying the pleasures of random communication and the themed museum turns into a bar where people meet to discuss about anything.

Can't argue with that and sometimes ends up being a great discussion as long as the posters ignore the core of the troll but continue the valid points (which the trolls hate) Tough to edit posts on mobile

I don't know if its been mentioned here yet, but I was wondering about how this board site plans on handling it's board archives? IMDb periodically deleted old and stale posts. Does this site have enough archive storage or will we see posts disappear after so many months?
