keep its October release date? I've been skeptical about this film ever since it was announced we've heard some casting news to start 2018. but that still doesn't give me assurance that this film will happen the early 00's justice league film had a cast and director and sill fell apart

what's the premise - are they ignoring VIII? i.e. how do they explain her death They are ignoring every one of the sequels. She will have a daughter in this one but it's not 'Jaime' played by Danielle Harris nor a son played by Josh Hartnett. The plot is still unknown, but they've said all of the sequels will be discarded and even mentioned that it will pretend that the first one 'ended in a slightly different way.' No word on what that might actually mean in practical terms, just speculation.

Yeah, I'd probably prefer a decent continuation, but there's not a lot of room to go anywhere considering how badly it all got fucked up a long the way. Laurie is dead. Jaimie is dead, or never existed at all. Who do we bring back? Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks?
They could have made a new story where Michael Meyers has always existed in Haddonfield with new characters, but I think we've seen a lot of that, and if we were going to get John Carpenter to be involved at all (he's writing the music) it made sense to disregard the sequels that he hated so much... Even though he wrote part 2, he evidently doesn't care much for it.
At least there are talented people making this. Whatever anyone thinks about Danny McBride (I think he's pretty funny), he's actually an accomplished writer and David Gordon Green is clearly a talented director. It's nice that at least the series will kind of return to an independent film voice. So that's cool.
I've got high hopes for it. Rob Zombie didn't leave us any room to hope for more from him, and to go back to continuing the previously muddled and incoherent time line would have been pretty weird too. I'm willing to go with this approach now.

I'm happy to see them pick up after the original. Maybe they can have a more consistent story rather than the mess they made of things with part 4 and after.

I don't think anyone really knows what that means at the moment, but Danny McBride has said that the movie pretends the first one 'ended in a slightly different way.' Anyone's guess as to what the means is purely speculative at this point though.
