He was a controversial choice when he was first announced as Joker for that reason, actually. I’m pretty sure Michael Keaton was the controversial one. Keaton was the MORE controversial one, but not the only one...heck, the whole film overall was seeing how Burton wasn't the big name then he is now.

the joker solo film is reportedly going to start filming in May this year. It won't be part of the DCEU. Scorsese will produce and Todd Philips will direct. link

Are we ever gonna see The Joker in a Batman movie ever again?

Are we ever gonna see The Joker in a Batman movie ever again? Well only time will tell. I miss when we just had movies with only Batman and no one else. ‘Twas the simpler days.

I think they should have focused on a Deathstroke movie first.

I think they should have focused on a Deathstroke movie first. Especially when they had Gareth Evans attached. But f^ck me right, Warner?

The Joaquin Phoenix Joker standalone movie is confusing and unnecessary. I hope the movie is good and does well for them.
But I would have preferred if they were going to make a Joker movie anyway why not use the Jared Leto version that already exists. This way they could have redeemed that version from how he was so poorly used in Suicide Squad.
Now they're just going to have competing Jokers. What's the point of that?

It's beyond stupid. It was clearly an idea cooked up by the moronic studio execs whose marketing team probably told them that the name Joker alone would sell tickets.

Is it a bad idea? Probably.
Is it needed? Absolutely not, honestly I'd say that every comic book movie regardless of what he fanboys say isn't needed.
But i don't see a harm in telling a story about the Joker, even if Batman isn't involved.

Did anyone ever acknowledge that Scorsese backed out of the film as quickly as possible?

No way. After seeing Bruce Wayne's parents die on screen for the 43,653,670th time, I'm not sure if I remember what happened. They need to "update" it for "modern audiences" again.

Depending on how it's done, it could go either way.

Full disclosure: when the Joker movie was first announced, I definitively thought that it was a terrible idea that would never work. With that being said, as I’ve come to reflect more and more on it, I’m beginning to think that maybe it potentially could make for something unique and interesting. I still don’t think I’d call it a good idea, but I suppose that if Sony is allowed to make an R-rated Venom movie, WB might as well be allowed to make a Joker standalone movie that (I assume) is also going to be rated R.
The difference is everyone hated Venom in Spider-Man 3, so nobody objected to a new Venom origin story movie in his own right.
With Joker, the opposite is true. We already have a "joker origin story" in Batman 1989 and its iconic (the scene of Joker unwrapping the bandages and yelling "mirror!", then smashing it and laughing uncontrollably has been parodies many times). Since we already have a definitive "joker origin story" on film that everyone remembers, we don't need a new one.

Definitive? The origin he had in that film was as barebones as it gets.

After seeing the trailer , I think the potential is there for this to be something very special and unique . Phoenix is very picky about choosing roles as well
