August 23, 1975: In 1975, former Manson family member Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme was arrested for the attempted assassination attempt of President Gerald Ford in Sacramento, California. Fromme was sentenced to life imprisonment and was sent to Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin CA. Transferred to Federal Prison Camp Alderson for attacking an inmate, she escaped on December 23, 1987. Fromme was attempting to see Charlie Manson, who she suspected was dying. Fromme would be recaptured 2 days later, on Christmas Day. 1977: Star Wars fans get an empty box for Christmas - Toy companies were unprepared for the outright mania for Star Wars toys in the weeks before Christmas in 1977.
